Cephalonia

Postby lilleyj on Thu Aug 18, 2005 10:41 am

Hi, we are travelling to Cephalonia next year to stay in Fiscardo at the Almyra Hotel. We have booked with Tapestry Holidays, a first for us, but I have been reading mixed reviews. Last year we went to Crete staying in Aghios Nicholas which we really liked. It was our first experience of Greece and we hope Cephalonia will be just as beautiful. I would love to hear from anyone who has been to Fiscardo-even better if you have stayed in the Almyra.

:thumleft: Hi,We went to Kefalonia in 2001 and if you thought Agios Nichalos in Crete was beautiful then wait until you see Kefalonia!!We stayed in Agia Efimia,a very pretty traditional fishing village and popular with the yachts-we loved it.We went to Fiscardo when we hired a car and i don't think you will be dissapointed,it's a beautiful harbour village which is lined with tavernas, cafes and some quite trendy shops, definately an air of sophistication about the place, only down side is that it is popular with day trippers.Overall,Kefalonia must be one of the nicest greek islands and Fiscardo is picture postcard greece, you'll love it!!!!!!

Hi LillyJ

I was in Kefalonia for the first time in the last week in October.

We stayed in Lourdas but visited Fiscardo and it was definitely my favourite place and when i go back i will definitely stay there.

It is the most picturesque little harbour, with breathtaking views.

Kefalonia itself is quiet and very very beautiful, if you are looking for a non-Brit boozy place, with lots to see but also to be able to relax at a beach, then this it the place.

Spectacular!!! you won't regret it.

Kefalonia is just fantastic. I love Greece but I think Kefalonia pips the other places marginally. Fiskardo is a great place and very picturesque but can be expensive. Make sure you visit Myrtos Beach down the coast - its an absolute must!

We have just booked to stay in Lassi from 2nd May for 2 weeks. Has anyone else been in May? What can we expect weather wise in the day and night? We prefer to go Mid Season to avoid crowds and will be staying s/c so plan to hire a car and travel all over the Island - best places to visit?

All advice much appreciated

I've just commented on Agia Efimia in another thread on Kefalonia - mostly very positive, apart from the stinging sea urchins. Tapestry Holidays regularly rate very highly on the Which? holiday reports, and I'm confident they'll give you a great deal.

Question for Davvo - where did you stay in Lixouri and were you pleased with it? I was hoping to stay in Argostoli/Lassi but have found no accommodation that suits to date.

Your help would be greatly appreciated!

We stayed at the Posidon hotel (thomsons) right on the sea shore very friendly but unfortunatly thomsons don't use it anymore, they also stopped using the palatino hotel in Lixouri , the only one they use that i know of is the Kefalonia Palace Hotel and we met a couple that was staying there they said it was a great hotel - great for couples and families -- facillities were excellent, only drawback its miles from anywhere so if you want an away-from-it-all type of holiday its ideal. you could always hire a car- the roads are o.k. best of luck-- alan.:)
