Berjaya Resort langkawi

Hi There,

I am due to spend 7 nights at the Berjaya resort in Langkawi in April 2007 and wondered if anyone who has stayed here could give me some feedback as although I have heard good things I have also heard some really terrible reports such as un-hygenic rooms and ants nests in rooms - Yikes!!

If you have had experience of hiring a car whilst staying on the island could you advise me on if I should try to hire a car before I go or should I wait until I get there bearing in mind that I only wish to hire for 2-3 days.

Has anyone had any paticularly good excursions or tips on places to visit. Me and my partner love to snorkel and wouldnt mind having a go at scuba, is it a good place for things like this?

Any tips, advice and experiences that you could tell me about would be greatly recieved so that I can make the most of my holiday.

Thanks in advance

Yvonne

Hello

I stayed at the Berjaya Langkawi a couple of years ago - had a fantastic time. It is not a 4/5 star but is clean and the service was excellent - you are living in the rainforest so you will experience some insects - our room had a can of insecticide to deal with it - not as bad as it sounds and all part of the experience with lizards (small ones) in the room at night - they won't come near you!! Hired a car whilst we were there - a lot cheaper than from UK, plus they delivered it and picked it up - we drove round the island in a few hours but was useful to get out and about. If you can visit the restaurant which is out in the sea just off the coast - you book on the beach and they pick you up in a little motor boat - don't have too much to drink as it is very dark on the way back and can get a bit choppy! Have a fab time! Mark

Stayed there in Jan this year. The villas are all ok but even so I would upgrade to a PREMIER Land Villa . the extra per night cost is not much and is well worth it. Reception staff are all very helpful but be persistant if they say they do not have any free rooms -- most Hotels always have some. Must say that even the "basic" room we were given originally was certainy clean and v tidy b ut only half the size of the Premier rooms. try TO UPGRADE IF YOU DO NOT ALREADY HAVE ONE OF THESE ROOMS BEFORE YOU GO AND UPGRADE DIRECT WITH THE HOTEL NOT YOUR TRAQVEL COMANY.
Hire a car when youn get there its only a small island so you dont need anything special.
Good excursion is the boat trip to the mangrove swamps -- all day with lunch about 10.00 book it at the hotel.
WE also went on a yacht trip to the isalands off. Not cheap but a very good day out --- book the one run buyt a mad Aussie!!

Tip for eating out --- when you go on to the beach at the Hotel look left and you will see a wooden built beach bar/restaurant about 400m away -- it`s lit up at night and belongs to the adjacent hotel. There is not much to do at the Berjaya at night so many of the guests go up there -- I think it`s called the "seashell" -- they have live music most nights and great food and atmosphere which is a bit lacking at the Berjaya in the evening.

Berjaya Resort Langkawi

We just returned from Berjaya Tioman and found it to be VERY poorly managed. Islamic law prevails. No pork, pool closed at 7pm. Alcoholic beverages were expensive and with small amounts of alcohol. The resturants catered to guests with food vouchers. Those of us without wewe forced to over pay or taxi to town to eat. For what its worth I heard that Beerjaya Langkawi was better. Malaysia overall was not a tourist friendly place.
