"Has anyone sailed from Southampton on this ship.?" --- HAZEL
Hello Hazel,
First let me welcome you to HW.
To answer your question, No
But we have sailed from Southampton and we have been on the Legend.
Christmas 1996 it was fairly new then.
To be honest I never knew this ship had joined the European market.
Southampton Docks are easy to get to and good parking, is there anything you are particularly concerned about?

Hi All
We are new to cruising, having just sailed on the Ocean Village we
thought we would try something better. I would like to hear from someone
who has been on the ship and what did they think of it.
thanks

Re: Legend Of The Seas Royal Carribbean
Hi Hazel,
The Legend would now be classed as mid-sized I guess, since the introduction of the monsters of late. Expect slightly American feel on board, compared to the Village, but I believe the dining is lots better, there are two set times for the evening dining in the restaurant, which will be around 6.30 & 8.15. While I loved some aspect of the Village, Royal Caribbean is certainly a step above for that extra class.
You can still eat buffet style, but also have a choice of eating in the DR for all meals, you should allow roughly 10 euros a day for tips. per person.
Other than that it's just a few steps up from the Village, you are requested to be smart at all times in the DR. Good shows, bars and the like.
One point, all cabins were smoking cabins, and our friends asked to be moved as the couple before them smoked in the cabin, although this policy may have changed by now..
You may also try for an upgrade when boarding, sometimes these are given free. Anything else you need to know please ask. There may even be some on HW who have been aboard since I was.

Hi Tenpin
Thanks for the information about the legend. It is first time it has sailed
from Southampton. They have change the ship to cater for english tastes,
ie food and entertainment. I am sure we will have a great time and will
let you know.

Hi Hazel,
Would love to hear about your cruise, when do you go?
We have just about exhausted Costa now, and might be trying Royal Caribbean again soon, although Princess Line is still a firm favourite. So many Cruises so little time. The idea of sailing from Southampton appeals, as that flight to the States is starting to get me down. Ah the joys of age, got the money but getting to old to enjoy it.

Hi Tenpin
We go on the 27th August for 2 weeks. What is the Costa Line like, and
would you recommend it. Ah you are never to old to enjoy cruising.

Hi Hazel,
Have done several reviews on Costa, and we love them however there are snags, mainly to do with the lack of English aboard. So unlike the OV or RC ships. MSC cruise line is partly taking over the British market for the Italian ships, and are said to be cheaper, but equally as good.
My absolute recommendation if you want the freedom of choice of dining combining with shear luxury of travel, great itinerary's and a good priced cruise, look no further than Princess Cruises.
Costa I recommend Romantica or Tropicale. (Europa is going to leave us)
But Hey, did you know that only 4% of passengers from the whole global cruise market, were dissatisfied with their cruise last year. So I guess we are well up on land-based holidays.
To read reviews go to cruise reviews and click cruise line then on ships. Hope to read yours there after you return. PLEASE.

Yes, we went from Southampton to the Med in October 2005 on our first cruise on Legend of the Seas. We enjoyed it so much, before we'd even got off we booked a second cruise for the following year on RC's Jewel of the Seas from Harwich!
On both ships the food and service was excellent, the passengers were charming, and we didn't even realise there were so many children on board (must be due to the Kids Club keeping them occupied all day).
We tried Crown Princess this year (2007) to the Eastern Caribbean, but found it didn't live up to Royal Caribbean. I think the smaller ships are more friendly - the Crown Princess was so big you didn't see the same people twice in a fortnight, whereas on the smaller ships you keep bumping into the same people.
We are going again with Royal Caribbean this year, on Voyager of the Seas round the Med again (different itinerary). We booked this before we decided we preferred smaller ships, but I'm sure the layout can't be as confusing as it was on the Crown Princess. We're also looking at going round the Greek Islands next year on Legend of the Seas.

to snazbaz. we are booked on legends of the sea in october 2008 from rome to the med and across to egypt.
my question to any one that has done any med cruising is have you done any of the tours on your own say from naples to sorrento etc.and back to the ship , ans was it easy to do and what was the cost? we find that the ships tours are too expensive especially in the euro or us dolloars. We are coming from Australia.
