maldives with children??

We would love to visit the Maldives - mainly to dive and relax, as a family with a 12 year child. Can anyone suggest which resort is best for the older child to visit please?

maldives with children??

Hi, having been to the Maldives I would be reluctant to take a child that age there as they like having other children to play with and there were only a couple of very young (3-5) children when we were in Kurumba. On our flight our there were no children at all! All loved up couples and honeymooners!! The islands are very small - you can walk around in about 10-15 minutes on most so not a lot of sports are available other than watersports. Have you considered Egypt - the diving in the Red Sea is amazing, very relaxing, it's a much shorter flight and a lot of the hotels there have full activity programmes and kids clubs. Makadi Bay near Hurghada is lovely, fairly quiet, great snorkelling and diving trips from the pier.

maldives with children??

Postby Joan46 on Tue Oct 23, 2007 5:33 am

Hello everyone, I am planning to go to Maldives too soon with my family but I have a question concerning the medical facilities there. I have been looking for a pharmacy directory ofr Maldives but didn't got any. I did a google search and I got http://www.drugdelivery.ca/directory-maldives.aspx but what is strange is that there are no pharmacy name listed in it and that's why I wanted to know if there are pharmacies there??Especially for Gnaviyani, because I think that we'll be there....

As I said in earlier post, the islands are really small - there's just about enough land for the hotel and a few restaurants. Kurumba had one shop which sold basics such as headache tablets and sun tan lotion, but I would imagine that the nearest pharmacy would be on the main isloand of Male.

If you are taking young children (or even more elderly people) we would strongly advise you not to go anywhere near the OLHUVELI RESORT on South Male Atoll. Earlier this year we were very severely poisoned with their food resulting in us spending the most of our stay in our bathroom. The management were totally arrogant and uncaring. The hygene at this resort is, even in the opinion of their own staff, very poor indeed. When we got back home our GP told us that the type of food poisoning they gave us could, in some cases, be fatal.
So our advice is to steer well clear of the OLHUVELI RESORT AND
? SPA?

maldives with children??

I stayed on Paradise Island, one of the larger islands, and there were many families with children of all ages. The island has sports facilities and an internet access point which appeared to be popular with teenage children.

They have a dive centre where try dives can be arranged, and there were teens returning with their families who were planning to take scuba courses and expected to have a good time. I dived the house reef and we saw turtles, lobster, shoals of fish and much more.

You can swim and snorkel in the lagoon around the island where you will see many different types of marine life. We saw baby reef tip sharks, manta rays, parrot fish and unicorn fish in less than 1m depth of water.

There is a pharmacy at Male airport which seemed to have everything you could possible want. Also the islands have access to doctors should the need arise for some medical treatment.

maldives with children??

Hi,we took our daughter who was just under 2years to 'sun island' in the maldives and had a great time.she loved all the attention from all the staff at the resort and each evening when we arrived at dinner there would be a small item/toy that the staff had made for her from banana plant leaves such as a bird or fish. The staff were wonderful, and the island very beautiful and safe there was even a small but very modern hospital on the island which was reassuring if we needed it.There were a few other children at the resort which also had a small play area and you could hire bikes which had childrens seats on the back, which our daughter loved.highly recommended island to take children to.
