best place for a lone parent to take her son on holiday?

Postby cheriB on Mon Feb 25, 2008 9:06 pm

I am taking my 10 yr old abroad in May, 1st time for him, I have never been to Majorca before so can anyone recommend a good resort with safe beach and other amneties to keep him entertained, not looking to go to a lively place ie Magaluf but not too quiet either. Also does anyone know what the weather will be like at the end of May?

Certainly one of the nicest resorts on Majorca would be Alcudia. It boasts the largest sandy beach on the 1sland some 5miles long. The port is well developed offering a wonderful marina. Traffic Free town centre, with plenty of places to eat and drink. Entertainment wall to wall. Weather wise, you will certainly need that sun block, perhaps a tad cooler in the evenings.
1deally a hire car would enhance any holiday, although the local bus service would allow you both to see something of the Area. A unique experience would be to take the train fromSolar on the East Coast into Palma....Enjoy!!

The recommendation of Alcudia wont dissapoint you or your son. For somewhere quiet with clean safe beaches try Can Picafort right next to Alcudia. The hotels run in front of the beach and the frontage is pedestrianised. Its a lovely all a lovely area between Can Picafort all the way to Alcudia.

Thanks everyone for your replies Im off to majorca on the 26th May and getting excited now. I am staying in Puerto Pollensa and am hiring a car so I can get around the island......Alcudia sounds great so will probably spend alot of time there as there's more to do with kids there. Can't wait only 5 more days to go. cheri xx

Hello my name is Keeley, I can recommend for you alcudia in majorca as i myself have been there twice with my little boy and really enjoyed it. You have a parade of pubs and bars that are family orientated doing childrens entertainment such as karaoke and games. the bars for people going there to drink are further up the coast so they do not interfere with your holiday. the local ammenities are fabulous. they have a supermarket on every street corner. i suggest you stay at the bellevue as they have a doctors and chemist which gives you peace of mind. you can book this hotel with a variety of tour directors. the beach is a 5 minute walk away from your hotel and a bus comes regularly which can take you to the harbour or for activities such as go-karting. they also have a taxi service that they will ring from the reception that is cheap. if you would like to ask me any questions my e-mail address is fluffykeels@hotmail.com
