I would like to thank everyone who replied to my "Malta Help" question. Unfortunately I have been without a computer for a while so hence the delay in replying. Just to let everyone know we decided to take the chance and book a holiday in Malta and will be off shortly.
I will let you know our thoughts when we get back.
Best wishes

HI TOFFEE, I AM A 60ish lady, and have been to Malta and Gozo, Preferred Gozo.. at this time of the year it may be quieter in St.Julians etc., it is bouncing in the summer and even the locals, suggest you stay away... We have not been again, as I have mobility problems, and the transport.. in not brilliant, but ok. the best beach are mellia bay ( I do not know how to spell it either) or quara.. ?? but personnaly at this time of the year and if you wish a short flight I would head for the Costa Del Sol, benalmadena, or torremolinas.. recommend PUERTO MARINA HOTEL (Riu) BENALMADENA.. you can get prices on line. www.riu.com.. glad I went to Malta but did not inspire me. Mainland Spain's transport system is excellent and if you have not been before you cold visit GIBRALTAR.

Just to let all who replied that we have just come back from St Paul's Bay, Malta and had a great time. Lots to do and see but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone with children certainly not this time of year.
Thanks for everyone who replied to my email it was certainly helpful.
Carol just to let you know that our usual haunt for March is the Costa del Sol where we have been many times and I agree with you I prefer this to Malta but Malta was a nice change and will go again somtime.
Best wishes

I am american and married to a malteser, for over 20 years. I have lived in england and visited Malta many times. Not much difference in hotels in either country so what is your problem Mal?????? You must understand the Maltese people....they are very kind but get to the point... Oh yeah as far as running around Malta with your shorts up your but, maybe you should put on some clothes and dress decently in their churchs...........

Lets stick to the point of it being a forum here people, its purely based on opinions as we each have our own.
If someone doesnt like a place, then fine thats their opinion. After all, its what this place is all about..mixed reviews to allow other public to make up their minds!

Hi I first went to Malta with friends in 1979 and loved the place, we all went back two or three times and I ended up falling for a musician there and having his son. Our relationship didn't work out but I took my son back several times to see his Maltese family and all our Maltese friends, we have been to two Maltese weddings and a Christening too. Lovely friendly people and I always felt at home there. Due to health problems mainly we haven't been back for 12 years but are in the process of booking an apartment in Bugibba in October and hope to go via ryanair, are they reliable, have never used them before? The apartment is apparently 50 m from the Cherry Tree pub which I don't remember but is apparently the in place to be. Does anyone know this area and will it be noisy?
I know I am going to be sad to see many changes in Malta - one friend has moved to a new maisonette in a the street where I stayed with my son's father, and I wouldn't be surprised if the house we were in has been demolished to build the maisonettes.
I am just 60 and my son is 25 so should be an interesting holiday lol

what a phoney poster is Dura..........Irish, my ar*e . Obviously English is her 2nd language.
Take my word for it, Malta sucks...........BIG TIME !!
We took a month there in 2006 and the ONLY people to speak to us were other tourists. There's no beaches worth a mention and nothing to do but look at churches, hundreds of churches. Had a day in Gozo, tour operator took us straight to a church and allocated 2 hrs there. !! As I said, there's nothing to do but visit churches.
Our visit was in Jan to Feb and the whole time the temperature seldom rose above 11degs. That must be the norm as the local men & women were wearing fur-collared long overcoats while we tourist were dressed for " mild weather with all year round sunshine". Even the publicity is phoney. It most certainly is a bad choice for a winter holiday.
Sliema was dirty and neglected looking, though the promenade where the ferries leave from was about the only very nice place we saw.
I hated Malta but it is my own fault as many people had told us that it made for a lousey holiday. Be warned !!

In response to Jan Apple who claimed Malta was " hot most of the year", please see BBC weather chart below.
Month av hrs sun col 3+4 min/max temp col 4+5 RECORD Min/max temps

Dec 5 12 16 6 22 - 77 68 110 13
The following bar chart for Valletta, Malta shows the years average weather condition readings covering rain, average maximum daily temperature and average minimum temperature.
We experienced 11degs at noon for almost the whole of our stay and this chart would suggest that this was an average winter temp.
