| Hi,
Wonder if anyone can help. My family and I are travelling to Maspalomas on Christmas day this year. We arrive mid afternoon. We are therefore looking for somewhere nice to have Christmas Dinner. Can anyone recommend?? My daughter is just 10 and a fussy eater so must be child friendly.
Also, We are staying at El Palmeral Bungalows. Anyone been? I've only read good reviews though.
What's the festivities like in Gran Canaria? Is there anything we should try and see? and also does pubs and restaurants and other attractions close down over Christmas?
Any advice appreciated.
Tiara:cheers:

| I fly to Playa Del Ingles on Christmas morning and we have a gala dinner provided free at our apartments as we took out the half board option. I don't know if this would be possible if you were self catering as most dining seems to be buffet. This suits our fussy eater as they can always have something else if they don't like it.
We too are wondering what we will find and also what type of weather to expect. I look forward to reading any replies.

| We were in Gran Canaria the beginning of December last year we stayed at the Gran Canaria Princess Playa Del Ingles, the weather was fantastic. Just didnt seem right lying on the beach in December.
The Spanish actually celebrate xmas on the 6th January. Although the amount of Brits they have celebrating the 25th I would imagine you'll have a fantastic time.

| Hi,
Thanks for your replies. Who are you flying with Digs? We are 1st choice flying from newcastle. Just thinking we might be on the same flight!
I'm not too worried about getting something to eat then if they celebrate xmas on 6th Jan...I think I heard that somewhere else too. I'm not bothered about having Christmas dinner as such anyway, as we've already made the decision to opt out of xmas! Just a nice meal will be fine. Just don't want our 10 yr old feeling like she's missing out....Plus I suppose we have to eat!
If we can't find anywhere we might have to gatecrash your hotel ;)
Mal can you recommend a nice restaurant if you've already been to the area?
I don't think Maspalomas is too far from Play del Ingles?

| We are first choice from Birmingham. Mind you its a Thomas Cook flight. Confusing eh.
We're opting out of the whole Christmas thing too. Our children are 16 and 13 so we chose Playa Del Ingles as its supposed to be lively. You aren't far away though. I think I was told within walking distance. (probably very wrong and its miles away)
Our hotel has mixed reviews so we're a little aprehensive but hey a holiday is what you make it. I will go with an open mind and buy plenty of duty free for the shock/horror on arrival. I'm sure we'll have a great time but would love ideas of where to go and what to do when we're there.

| We were looking for a quieter holiday. Our evenings hopefully will consist of a meal and a few drinks. My daughter is just 10 in october so still needs her sleep. Not too erarly though! She likes a party too so we may head into Playa del ingles a couple of nights.
What do you think the weather will be like? Warm I hope.
I'm sure your hotel will be fine. I think some people are hard to please and you're bound to get some bad reviews.
We booked our apartments on the strength of good reviews. They say basic accomodation but very clean and friendly service. Nice pool area.... All you would want really! Just hope it lives up to its reputation.
I'm not sure what trips etc we are going to do yet...I'm happy to relax with a book but my husband gets bored. He's fancying the jeep safari and the wee one is hoping to go to one of the water parks. We might hire a car for a couple of days. We did that when we were in Majorca and got on ok with the driving and it was nice to see a bit of the island.
What are you hoping to do in your hols??

| I too will be quite happy reading my book. Unfortunately the rest of the family will not be as happy to do the same. So far I haven't researched very much so am not really that aware of what we will find to do. Previous holidays tell me that jeep safari and quad biking are a favourite. Whats the Aqua Park like?
Our evenings will be spent having a meal and then going out and seeing whats on offer. From our two earlier holidays this year I think bars with music (and an outside area for me to people watch) are a good compromise. We also enjoy a good show.
As for the weather its got to be better than here. I'm sure it should be nice some of the time.
The Christmas stuff is coming into shops already and its so nice knowing I'm not going to be rushing about shopping for everyone. The only presents we are buying are for my parents. They may even get gift vouchers.

| I'll buy a little something for neices and nephews. It's not fair they have to miss out but apart from that I'm not buying presents either. My daughter will still get something but will prob just be a new bikini a and things for our hols that I would have bought anyway!
I thought I was the only one that liked to people watch! I think there will be a lot to watch too by what I've been reading. I didn't know that Gran Canaria had a big gay scene, so I suppose there will be the odd drag queen or so??
I'm not sure what to expect to be honest. I've only been to gran canaria once and that was when I was only 17...god, that's 20 yrs ago. I feel old!::roll:
