Hi,
I am travelling to menorca in a large group, and stopping in a villa,
We have sometime before we are allowed into the villa,so we thought we would do the big shop for food etc before we get there
we are hiring cars,so thats not a problem
we are staying in the resort of cala galdana
Dont want to get lost though...
i am heard there are some large supermarkets in industrial estates near to mahon
any suggestions or better still,directions?

Hi,
Like yourselves I am preparing to fly out to Menorca and sussing out where to shop, so far I have only managed to find Topmarkets which are in Calan Bosch, Calan Blanes and Son Xoriguer in the west which is the wrong end of the island for me. Hope this helps.

Hi

I believe there is a large supermarket on the Poligon Industrial Estate on the outskirts of Mahon, but I have never used it. However there are 3 small supermarkets in Cala Galdana where you can obtain virtually everything you will need .

We too usually arrive to early to get into our villa , so we do our shop and have lunch in one of the lovely restaurants in the resort.

welll, i just got back, and am so pleased we shopped at the supermarket near the airport,as the prices and choices in the local supermarket were limited/expensive
the big supermarket is about 2 mins in a car from the airport,
when you leave the airport, instead of going straight on at the first roundabout, you take a right hand turn, then straight down the road until you come to another roundabout, here you make a left, then straight on until you reace another roundabout, here you make another left, and then you will see the supermarket on the left hand side
to get to it,you need to drive past it,and come back on yourself,as you cant make a left hand turn into the car park
once you have done your shopping, you can carry on the same road that brought you to the supermarket (as if you are driving past it),this will bring you back to another roundabout, where you make a right hand turn, which will eventually lead you to the main road that travels through menorca

if you use google earth, here are the co-ordinates

3953'12.67"N
414'41.10"E

btw,we had a great time, cala galdana is a fantastic place for kids, even though the night life is limted
the square has some great entertainment, although the drinks are very expensive,in one bar,and this is not uncommon,we paid 8 for a pint of local beer, and a pimms and lemonade
the main hotels (sol galdana/gavilanes)have some good acts on at night
but be prepared for the expensive sunbeds,@ 22 euros for 2 beds/brolley per day
we ended up buying our own brolley for 9 euro's

thanks,Harry

There is also a Hipermarket in Cuitedella on throad out to Cala Blanca and Cala n'Bosch that we've used before and is cheaper than the resort shops.

We came back from Cala Galadana this week and would also recommend the evening entertainment at the Audax especially the magician on the Sunday evening.

There is also a large Super market between Cala'n' Blanes and Cuitedella as well, probably closer than going to Mahon.
