Looking to book next years holiday to menorca but have never been and don't know where to go. I want somewhere with restaurants and bars but not too rowdy and very family friendly, nice sandy beaches and some places to visit with 2 small children. Also a not too lengthy transfer time. If anyone could recommend where in Menorca I should look and any fab hotels, it would be very much appreciated.

Hi Halis: You'll land at Mahon and with the Island only being 16 miles long the transfers are not long at all.
We stayed at Sa Caleta and there are some lovely slef catering apartments there as well as hotels. It is quite near to what used to be the old capital Citudella, it's got many bars and restaurants to suit all tastes.
It can be breezy in April and May but scorching hot throughout June July and August.
Cala Blanca is close to Citudella too and has lovely beaches.

Cala'n Bosch! Hotels to consider (but there are loads that are great for children) Paradise Club, Viva Menorca, Princesa Playa. Paradise Club is central, near the beach and restaurants, play areas etc, Viva Menorca about a 10-15 min walk into the marina and the beach at Cala'n Bosch and Princesa Playa best for children, down the road from Son Xoriguer beach but 10-15 mins walk into the marina. If you are looking at something on a tighter budget, try the Hotel Cala'n Bosch (all inclusive, on the beach, childrens' entertainment etc). Some of the 2 * apartment complexes are very good, so it is worth looking at the reviews.

I have been to a few of the resorts and would recommend this as the best for children. Not too quiet, but definitely not too noisy. Pick your time carefully though, as we made a big mistake this year and went in the last week of July, first week of August and it was much too hot.

Good luck

Sorry, transfer time is about an hour, but we always hire a car from the airport, and it takes about 45 mins.

Yes Cala n Bosch is great, we go just after the kids have gone back to school in September, can recommend the Casas Del lago or Roc Lago Park, lots of nice restaurants, very child friendly, good small beach, takes about an hour on the coach transfer, can get a bus easily to Cuitadella for a change of scenery, very good for shopping.

As its such a small island transfer times are minimal anyway, best areas I found to stay in are Citudella & close to Mahon harbour itself.

There web is linked to all the top names in the industry are prices are very good. Easy to use website.

Enjoy your holiday.

We used to own a villa in Cala Torret, just down the road from Binibeca and within walking distance of Binibeca Beach. We had friends with a villa just outside Mahon, which they had owned for more than twenty years. They gave us loads of advice on the pluses and minuses of the various resorts all over the island and we spent an entire week trying to find the best place for our needs.

We settled on Cala Torret/Binibeca for the following reasons:

Just 20 minutes by car from Mahon Airport.
Quiet, but not too quiet and suitable for children
Nice and reasonable restaurants in walking distance of both Cala Torret and Binibeca
Beautiful sandy beach with beach bar serving reasonable food at Binibeca
Supermarkets close by to walk and pick up lunches etc.
Large Supermarkets just down the road at Sant Luis making a weekly shop viable
Mahon and the harbour just 15 - 20 minutes away by car depending on traffic and time
Not heaving with partying teenagers - for instance Cala En Porter and to a certain extent Cala n Bosch can have this at certain times of year.

We're still adding to our website - even though we have now sold the villa and are hoping to include holiday offers and villa rental deals. (See the Signature)

Enjoy your visit - we really miss the island!

have stayed many times at my friends place in Aala en Porter, cannot disagree more with above. CP is lovely and mostly private villas. Tend to find the teenagers at the resort Hotels catering to 'cheap holidays' like Calan en Forcat and Cala en Bosch.
