Have just returned from two weeks at the Iberostar Tucan hotel and I won't post a review as it will be the same as I posted two years ago - fantastic hotel, good food, no probs.
However, there has been a lot of discussion about the erosion on the beaches in Playacar. The Tucan still has a good beach, slightly less then in 2006 and large barriers have been built which resemble whales, but make a small lagoon for that hotel. I didn't walk too far along the beach but hubby and some friends did, most of the beaches are hotel but the ones nearest to Playa del Carmen do have some erosion. Having said that, I would say to anyone going to Playacar, don't worry, you will still find a sunbed on the beach, the sea is still warm and clear and you will have a great time.
