I think the United Arab Emirates form part of the middle east. I believe there are seven Emirates, the ones I know are Dubai, Oman, Abu Dhabi, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and I think the other two are Iran and Iraq.

To be precise the Middle East is really part of Asia.
It borders Europe, Africa and Asia as we know it, there are many theories which countries actually make up the Middle East but starting at 45 N, roughly we enter the Med by Turkey follow it down the Red Sea round the Gulf of Aden into the Indian Ocean & Persian Gulf. to 15 N, Yemen
As well as those Hils has mentioned if this ageing brain can be trusted from 60 years ago and my awesome Geography teacher constant reminder that this is important, learn it. I think some of the following are also part of this area.
Syria, Jordan, Kuwait, Afghanistan, Pakistan but don't quote me on this.

Hi Friends
There are many Beautiful countries in the Middle East. Last Year i have been to Egypt and i visited many monumental places including the citadel, monumental mosques and churches and many other things. After this journey i became more interested in seeing photos for Egyptian monuments and reading about its history.

Hi there - the 7 Emirates that make up the UAE are:
Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, Um al Quain, Fujairah and Ras al Khaimah (not sure about the spellings though!) The first 3 are the best known though Fujairah is popular for diving.
Oman is very close and you can drive over the border quite easily but it is a Sultanate not one of the Emirates.
Quatar is also within driving distance. Yemen is also in the Middle East but is not the safest place for holidays.

I have found that 22 countries make up the middle east, though this number differs depending on where you search:
Lebanon, Syria, Cyprus, Turkey, Qatar, Iran, United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Armenia, Iraq, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Kuwait, Saudia Arabia, Bahrain, Israel, Turkmenistan, Kazkhstan, Uzbekistan, Tejikistan, Krygyzstan, and Azerbaijan.
I always thought (and I think a lot of others think this too) that Egypt was considered part of the middle east, but I guess technically it isn't. Culturally though it seems to be very similar.
In terms of traveling, I think Turkey, Jordan and Israel are the most touristy of the lot.
