tetouan - things to do etc

Hi

I am booked to go to Morocco at end of June for one week.
I am flying into Tangiers and staying in the Sofitel Thalassa Marina Smir.
I have never been to Morocco before and am a bit nervy about it as I dont know anything about Morocco to be honest.

Can you help me with things to do in this area, is it nice,is it safe.
Do you leave the hotel area and freely walk somewhere or must me and my partner stay in the hotel complex.
Would appreciate advise on the area and what there is to do and see.
