we are looking to go to las vegas next year, never been before and dont want to hire a car. are we best staying on the strip or is it really noisy. If we stay say 3 miles away how readily available is transport, and is it expensive.
Thanks
Jane
On or off the strip

Hi Jane, we went last year and stayed at the Stratosphere (guests get free trips up the tower!) booked through Hotels.com.
Its not noisy to stay on the strip, All hotels are well back off the road.
A friend has stayed at the Orleans which is down a side street and would recommend that too.
Cheap enough to get a taxi from the airport. There are buses going up and down the Strip, all day tickets available.
You'll love the place!

Hi,
I go to Vegas regularly and love it. Do stay on the strip. If you go off it it can be tricky and/or expensive to return to your hotel late at night. Strip hotels are fine and certainly not noisy. Look for deals at places like circus circus and those more in the centre. nothing wrong with the Stratosphere but it is at the very northern end of the strip and away from all of the action.
You do not say how long you are going for but if it is at least a week then you may wish to get a monthly bus ticket (available at DTC) for $30. This will give you unlimited use of the CAT bus system for a month. Flat fare on this is $2 for each trip with NO change given so you get your money's worth very quickly.
Must see - Freemont street experience, treasure island battle, bellagio fountains - all free
Good buffet at Ballys, treasure island, monte carlo but remember to add 7.5% state sales tax onto price. Drinks are free when you are gambling (waitresses shout "******,.") You can have whatever you want. Tip the waitress $1 each time and she will be your friend for life.
Need any more help just ask.

Hi Jane,
I would second what Roland said, middle of strip is best, we stayed at Shahra one year & found it a little to far down.
So much to see at LV but a weeks about right, you can look & book shows before you go.
I'm afraid with Vegas its you pays your money you take your choice, almost every hotel we have stayed in has been awesome.
Worth looking at are some deals offering Orlando, Las Vegas & finish in New York certainly worth considering. (flight times about 4 hours)

The Strip definitely! There you will have the true flavor of Vegas. The hotel rooms are not noisy (get a strip view hotel--fab!)

Another vote for on The Strip. No noise problems in the hotels as they are well back from the road. Do be aware though that not all rooms in all hotels will have views of The Strip.
The various resort hotels are huge and cover massive frontages so somewhere central will give you an option of which direction to go when you leave your hotel.
