Hi Lenny,
During the day (sea days) anything is ok, but not shorts or swim wear if using the diner room for breakfast or lunch, buffet is a little more relaxed but do cover up swim wear. Really just reasonable attire for situation.
Evening's range from smart casual to formal (tux/evening dress) suit or jacket & tie, you will receive and daily news sheet in your cabin which will tell you the expected dress code for the evening.
For the most part the ladies tend to dress up a bit when dinning, so you could follow suit, you will never be overdressed, but also never looked down on if smartish.
I say no jeans in DR, but have seen these on occasion.

Hi Lenny,
Done most of P&O ships and you will certainly enjoy sailing with them, there is a very distinct 'British' feel about them as can be expected.
You have two problems,
1. By taking your first cruise you are going to be spoilt for other types of holiday for the rest of your life. Ok perhaps I am a cruise fanatic. but it is catching.
2. You will find however long you go for, it's not long enough.
3. you will certainly meet new friends and have a wonderful time.
Now if I have not put you off then my basic tips are to enjoy the experience, do allow enough time to watch the shows, do take trousers with elasticated waistbands, you will need them by day three.
Do read the daily news sheet which comes through the cabin door, this will tell you what is going on and where. Ships tours are expensive but great for learning the history or whatever port you are in, otherwise use local taxis/minibuses which you will fine outside dock gates for a quick local tour. look out for hop-on hop-off tour buses great way of seel sights.
I come in most days, and will attempt to answer any other questions you have. In the mean time do look in the Cruise Forum most answers will be found in there.
