Getting Married in Cyprus - Re Change of name deed

Postby madhouse35 on Fri Jun 13, 2008 5:02 pm

Hi, can anyone help, me and my fiance are hoping to get married this year in Peyia Town Hall, we are arranging it ourselves as my parents live over there, we have been told that my change of name deed (which I did through a solicitor in 1999) will not be accepted as there is no solicitor stamp on it. The solicitor I used has since passed away. I've enquired with another solicitor who is happy to copy it and put his solicitor stamp on it saying it is a true copy, but I've been told that they won't accept this if it has copy on it? A friend of mine got married in Jamaica in 1999, and her change of name deed is exactly the same as mine which was accepted. My pasport is in my name that I've used since 1999. I've enquired about doing another deed pole, which will cost me 100 plus VAT, which i do begrudge doing as I have been using this name since 1999 and that's me!! However, when I enquired with the solicitor about putting a stamp on it, she even said it was not common practice to do this, but she could if I wanted her to. Basically what I'm asking has anybody got married in Cyprus with a change of name deed that had no stamp and was accepted? Thank you in advance. Jo

Getting Married in Cyprus - Re Change of name deed

Hi there, just a thought I'd let you know you can get a change of name deed for 7.50 on the internet by typing in Change of Name Deed and several companies come up. Get someone to type it for you, or yourself, if you can and take it either to a Solicitor or Notary or even your local County Court and swear the document, costing very little. My niece is actually getting married in Peyia on 25th June we are travelling out on 18th June. She hasn't changed her name but she did have to have a document regarding her single status and the single status of her husband to be. I typed the document for her, having found one on the internet and our local solicitor signed and stamped it. Solicitors are getting money for old rope, how dare they charge 100 plus VAT for something that you can get for 7.50. I know you already have your Change of Name Deed but it may be easier just to do a new one without having to pay 100. Hope this helps. Ange.
