I don't think you will be disappointed in the Athena, the hotel is situated on the hotel strip of Paphos just east side of the harbour, well served by a good regular bus service. You can walk to the harbour within 20 mins either by the main Rd or the coast path, there are plenty of bars & restaurants along the way.
Although I cannot inform you of the state of the rooms all I can say is that I have played at the Athena on many occassions the lobby is nicely layed out & as you walk through the lobby there is a terraced area where most wedding receptions are held, you can then walk down some steps to enter the pool area. There is a lovely footbridge leading over the pool & the wedding Ceremony is held in the gardens to the right of the pool, away from the crowds.
You have chosen one of the most popular hotels in paphos, George the manager is very good & the hotel is fantastic well layed out.
the ceremony is tucked away to the right of the hotel by the sea front away from the public eye. there are plenty of restaurants around the area & are all in easy reach of the Athena
if you need any other info just e-mail me

| hi thanks for the info, read a couple of dodgy reviews about athena but mostly positive ones, must admit this was are 2nd choice hotel 1st one was elysium which we really wanted but unfortunately they have this policy that all wedding guests must stay in their hotel, which i find strange and its such a shame as hotel gardens for wedding looked great, anyhow i will be in touch if i need any more info thanks again.

| That policy went out of the window in early 2007. The requirement for having a wedding at the elysium is that the Bride & Groom must stay at the hotel for at least a week & order the cake & transport through them

| Hi Guerns
We are also getting married in Paphos in April 2009 and have been looking at the same hotels as you. We have not yet booked, due to the same reason, frustrating isnt it? We also like the Elysium and The Athena Beach and I have phoned both Thomson and First Choice who have told me that you Must order the cake/use the hairdresser and also have your reception at the Elysium although your guests do not have to stay there they cannot use the facilities of the hotel. This has made us look at alternatives due to us having a very small party. I have been reading lots of advice on the forums as to possibly getting my own Coordinator to give us advice on the different hotels/where to hold a reception for a small party (approx 10-15 people). We would like a hotel that is child friendly as our daughter will be 20 months old, also a 4*+/5* hotel with free room upgradeif possible.
Keep in touch maybe we can exchange ideas. Hope you get sorted.

| Just to add to my previous post.... I have come across another hotel in Paphos called Riu Cypria Resort, it seems to have really good reviews and as far as I can see, you can get married in the hotel grounds also. If anyone knows anymore about this hotel, it would be much appreciated?

| Hi. I got married in Paphos in August 2006. We booked with First Choice holidays a year in advance. When we arrived in Cyprus we met the wedding co-ordinator, he was great. We planned everything with him. He had portfolios of florists, hairdressers, restaurants etc. He got information and prices on everthing. He gave us his mobile number, so when I was lying on my sun lounger if I thought of any other questions I could always contact him. I was made to feel like the most important bride in Cyprus. From the moment we booked our wedding/holidat, right through to getting home the service was excellent.
Hope this has been some help, Mrs walker!!

| Having got married in Cyprus in 2003, I would look to actually having the ceremony at a little place near Coral Beach called Paya, the service is very quick but in beautiful grounds of the town hall. We married there as we was advised that the town hall was very hot, and as the bar staff at the Mayfair Hotel described " a small red room!". Good luck with whatever you decide.
Regards
Helen

| Hi Guerns
Just wanted to update you.... we have been into the local Thomson shop, and they have ALL holiday dates up for April. They could NOT understand y we have been told that we are to wait for April before we can book, as this is still their winter season and is available now. They had a look at the Amathus Hotel for us, this hotel has been highly recommeneded to us by a friend who stayed there. They have rooms available. although the hotel is fully booked for weddings throughout April (which also shows that they are being booked now). We are now wondering whether to book our own coordinator, but really worried of the unknown!! any advice would be very much appreciated as we really want to book asap, so to let family and friends know so they can book also.
Many thanks
Claire

| My son is getting married at the Elysium in July this year and like you was unable to book anything for a long while. I contacted the hotel direct and spoke to Ann McIntyre who is the wedding co-ordinator and she is great. You do not need to arrange your wedding through Thomson or Sovereign. My son and his fiancee then booked their room and flight with Sovereign when they were able to do so.
All the guests DO NOT have to stay at the hotel. I felt it was better to speak to Ann rather than some obscure Sovereign person who would not even be there on the day.
I just hope it all goes off okay but feel confident.

No need to worry Ann will look after you. I have ben saying your very sentiments for a long time now to others regarding all the guests do not need to stay at the hotel, only stipulation is that the Wedding couple stays for at least 7 days at the elysium & have the cake from the hotel

| Hi just to say I am also getting married in paphos town hall and stayin at athena beach hotel in aug this year, we booked with airtours who have since been took over by thomas cook who i would not reccomend. At the moment we are looking on net for a good reasonable photographer to do our pictures as if we do it through thomas cook it will cost nearly 500GBP, so if anyone can reccomend one.
Anyway guerns i will let you know how ar big day went.

| Hi Shimmy,
It would be nice if you could let us know how you liked The Athena Beach. We are trying to choose between this hotel and Riu Cyrpia Bay. We want a hotel that is suitable for children also, as we will be travelling with our daughter who will be 20 months old.
Hope your big day goes wonderful

| Thanks very much Kev. Think we may go for the Riu, however I have emailed to check if they do free room upgrades for Wedding couples and they tell me I will have to wait until October 2008 to book in order to find out. Maybe we will book with a tour operator and they may be able to organise this for us!!

| Hi
I was married in Peyia (just outside Paphos)
In May 2005.
We booked with Cyplon, and stayed at the Alexander the Great Beach Hotel for 3 weeks.
We had to wait until the brochure came out to book, and I was worried we'd not get our dates etc, but we did.
I also chose Cyplon as they offered 3 week holiday, where other companies didn't.
We had the Cypriot Musicians at our wedding, and a sit down BBQ at our hotel over looking the beach.
With a DJ, it was fantastic to eat and dance outside with our wedding party.
I wish I could do it all again!!
