| Hello we are wanting to spend New Year away and fancy two weeks in either Gran Canaria or Cyprus. We would like help please on what to expect weather wise in Paphos at this time of year as although we`ve been to Gran Can many times it would be our first visit to Cyprus and don`t want two weeks of cloud and rain making us wish we`d chosen Gran Can. Anybody had experience there at this time of year please and offer advice. Thankyou.

it is not as warm as the canary islands. it is usually quite pleasant during the day ( and can sometimes wear shorts and teeshirts ) but does get quite chilly at night and require some type of heating then and also a thin cardigan/jumper or jacket when walking at night
hope that helps
regards keith

| There is also wunderground where you can put the date in for any day , year etc and it will give you temps etc.
Im sure that Gran canaria would be hotter that time of year .

| To be honest & thats what this forum is supposed to be like last New Year was like a Ghost Town, this due to the fact that flights was overpriced, about 50 hotels closed and even the locals where finding it hard to find places open. It was quite cold and thundery over the New Year
GC is hotter during that time of year & the price of flights are a damn sight cheaper compared to Cyprus
Sorry if that sounds off putting but I went back to the UK because it was warmer lOL

| I spent Christmas and New Year in Kouklia, northeast of Paphos. It was freezing at night but warm in the day. The previous year, we did the same in Lanzarote and it was warmer in the day and night. However, I prefer Cyprus.

| Well I did not know that GC was hotter then Cyprus at this time of year. Cyprus is warm in the day but cool at night need a cardigan or jacket. There has been at lot of work around the harbour making it pedestrianized area. I have been in pfo many of time at this time of year and not every time has been the same weather it has been changeable as has GC as every one knows that weather is unpredictable. But otherwise Cyprus is a lovely island and can be explored easy as they drive on the same side of the road all signs are the same and from air to hotel or villa the longest travel time is approximant at the most 25mins always a taxis waiting £18 euros. On all site it sayes that GC average lows are between 14 ºC and 21 ºC and Cyprus is average highs of 15 to 19 degrees.

| Hello neal1260
I am from Spain so I would recommend the Canaries, especially Tenerife and Lanzarote if you don`t know them yet.
They have soft and nice temps all year round (perhaps not that hot to have a bathe in winter but better than Cyprus am sure)
I also would like to recommend Malta and Madeira both nice islands worth a visit if you want to explore a little bit further. Another island very appreciated is Sicilia (haven't been there yet) just to give you a few ideas.

| Stayed in Paphos last new year and although fairly quiet we enjoyed it, managed a few days of shorts weather, but on the whole slightly chilly,
Would definatly go back at that time of year, we usualy travel over in September, and have done since cant remember when, always staying in the Paphos or Pissouri areas, but I think it may be time to have a change of destination after this holiday coming up, not that we are fed up or anything, far from it, could never get sick of Cyprus, its the rising costs and flights that are dictating.

| I would definitely recommend Gran Canaria in the Winter, we have been there in December, seemed really odd lying on the beach near xmas.
The Canary Islands are lovely in the winter months, although we found it quite cold at night in Lanzarote.
