| Hi everyone
I am on countdown now till 1st May when I fly off to the Dominican Republic - Gran Vantena.
Has anyone been? got any hints or tips re: injections/tablets etc etc....
I have never been this far before and I must admit am dreading the 9 hour flight, but I have been told that it will fly by... I certainly hope so.
If anyone has been to the Gran Vantena can they give me their views please.
I am so excited but apprehensive too and I know I can rely on good old HW to put my mind at ease.
Look forward to hearing any comments anyone has.

I look forward to hearing all about it on your return. I not counting either I dont think ...
So what you doing about your injections and what about the tablets for malaria - I have heard differing views yes you should take them no you shouldnt dont know really.
What complex you staying at?

| Hello Chris,
I had these injections - Tetanus, Polio, Typhoid, Hepititus A.
Although I think that some were boosters and most should be up to date anyway.
Can't remember about the Malaria tablets, I don't think were advised to take them, however that may have changed.
Check with your Doctor or Nurse, just to be sure. Hope that helps a little :)

I have got to give blood on Friday so I will leave it until after then...... better be safe eh.

If you get a chance to do any trips on your Holiday, can recommend The Monster Truck Jeep Safari.
It is amazing. Words failed me (for once ha ha) when I saw the size of the jeep. It wasn't a "jeep" in any sense of the word. Converted army tank more like, you had a ladder, not the two step kind, to get into this thing! Mad.
It takes you all through the scenery where they filmed Jurassic Park. Fantastic and stunning. There's all sorts of other things they show you, a cheese factory - I really can't describe it, you have to see it to beleive it! Typical village house and school and other things.
It really was a good day out, we also stopped for lunch and a swim in the river.
If you do go on this trip, beware the water!
They have NO sense of fear when driving this monster truck! Trust me, you will want to hold onto something! Fantastic giggle but scared the pants off me!

| Hi Chrissey, we're staying at the Iberostar Costa Dorada, go on 12th March. We've actually had all our injections, we needed them when we went to the Far East and they are good for 10 years. Don't know about malaria tablets though, I've heard different stories on whether they are necessary or not. If any HW members can help, is it necessary to take malaria tablets?

I am truly looking forward to it - I dont know about the Safari trip I am a bit of a scardy cat you know what I mean. I want to swim with the dolphins and hubby wants to swim with the sharks - he always has to do the dangerous stuff.... so perhaps he will go on the safari trip instead and I will just relax by the pool with my book....... lol

| Hi Chrissey, we walked up the beach from our hotel and saw your's. It looks really nice and I'm sure you will have a good time. If you walk along the beach from your hotel, there's a little village complex where you can barter and buy all sorts of souvenirs (not the shopping centre in your complex, that's quite upmarket!). Also if you keep walking past the village, on the beach there's a little man with no top teeth selling painted parrots on perches. Yes, I'm sad, me and my mate both bought one each, we knocked him (not the parrot!) down to the equivalent of £5.50 each.

I enjoyed your post and have to admit am getting very excited now with regards to our holiday. I have everything ready to iron and pack am going to leave that till the day before though, have my money changed and my sun cream at the ready.........
Glad you enjoyed your holiday and I will look out for the man with no teeth, perhaps I could take him a set over eh..... lol

| WELL HERE I GO.......
Am finishing work in just under 30 minutes am off to the gym for my final session before the Dominican Republic in the morning..... got to get up early to be at the airport at 6.00
Will let everyone know how it goes when I get back..
Anyone else at Birmingham International in the morning...... give me a wave ....

| Hi we went to Gran Ventana 3 years ago and loved every minute of it. It was also our first time and was more than we ever expected or hoped for. Pool is fantastic and you will never go hungry, food was great. We are going back to Dom Rep in July. Loved Gran Ventana so much we nearly booked to go back!! But thought we would try a different hotel - for comparison!
