hi can anyone help me please. me and my boyfriend are visiitng algarve this month and want to hire a car but have been told my most companies we need a credit card to leave for deposit. does anyone know of any companies whci accept debit card for deposit?? thanks x

I do think you'll find this very difficult with the car hire companies who operate from Faro Airport - you could probably leave a cash deposit instead but it would be costly as you'd have to change money into euros and then get it back when you leave. One of the smaller companies in resort may be able to accommodate you. Is it not worth getting a credit card purely for travelling abroad? - I have one which doesn't charge commission on purchases which is very useful.

I hired a car in Albuferia and had to have a credit card, but the prices were very good.
