| I am going to Portugal in August and will be staying in Clube Praia da Rocha with my Husband and 2 children aged 2 and a half and 5 years. The accommodation looks fantastic in the brochure but I have read some terrible reviews (also some really good ones). I am now really concerned - does any one know anything about these apartments? :pale:

| They are a huge complex. They are designed to disuade you from leaving the complex so you spend all your holiday money in thier shops/cafes. The look quite fairy taleish from a distance. But the are easy walking distance to the beach, and the cafes/bars on the promenade. An expat pub owner over there told us that the owners of the club Pria de Rocha let the apartments for as little as 5 euros per week, and make thier money from the add ons. As long as your aware of this, you will enjoy yourself.

| Thank you Davy. Most of the bad reviews were about Block 3 - filthy, furniture falling apart, mould in the shower, broken lifts to name but a few of the comments. Also you have to be up at the crack of dawn to book sunbeds and might not get much sleep because of raucous nightime revellers. I have put in a request with the tour operator to request Blocks 1 or 2 but I don't know how much god this will do me? Any advice will be gratefully received as I am getting increasingly worried at a time when I should be looking forward to my holiday!

| Budget Travel - I booked it through holidaysonline.ie who are a division of the Sunways Travel Group - I am flying out of Dublin so it's possible that Budget are an Irish tour operator.

| I have had no dealings with them. I presume transfers are included? If so, tell the rep as soon as you see her/him, and they may be able to switch blocks if your in block 3. If you refuse to go into block 3 in the first place, chances are they will find somewhere else, as airport day is the busiest day of the week, and they wont want to spend time arguing.
Hope this helps

| Thanks very much - I had thought of that but I'm a bit weary of making myself stand out as 'troublesome' and ending up in block 3 as a punishment- :silent: BUT you are the second person to advise me to speak to the rep immediately so I probably will.
Thanks again for your help.

| Hi just wanted to let you know i used to be a holiday rep a couple of years ago and actually lived in clube praia da rocha, right at the top in the pent house suites!) I loved it and never had one problem with the hotel or the staff - i never actually worked there so was technically a guest i suppose.
The hotel is huge with mostly friendly staff and some good facilities (this was a couple of years ago so things could have changed). The rooms and reasonable, however the resort is great and the algrave is fab i would throughly recommend it, there is loads to do and see or if you just want to stay by the pool and chill you can do that.
Hope you enjoy your time there
