hi oaky
if you dock in villefranche for monte carlo you can catch a train for 4.60euros, then if you walk up quite a steep hill to your right when you come out of the station you can catch a little red train for 7 euros that will give you a tour of monaco and monte carlo, it has earphones and gives you loads of interesting information, as for rome we got a group of nine and took a mini bus from the port, the driver took us to all of the sights, which is not really possible on the excursion as there is a lot of walking it cost us about 50 euros each but was worth every penny. florence i would catch the train it is very compact and you will see most things hope this is useful.

Hello Oaky,
Getting excited yet?
Just to clarify the posts about formal nights, on the Sea Princess about 30% of gents will be wearing a tux, about 45-50% a suit & the rest just a jacket & tie. On this point I just love these nights & wearing my tux.
In reality Ladies will dress in anything from a full ball gown to anything smart, which you would wear to a nice restaurant at home. There are just two formal nights each week, but most nights the Ladies dress up rather than down.
You DO NOT have to attend these nights, you have the choice of eating in the buffet at anytime.
And just as a point of interest, nobody has yet said look there's a crease in that mans shirt' or that perhaps a top came from M&S and not Harrods.

Hi we are going on the sea princess in nov. it is a smaller ship than i am used to as i have done 4 cruises on the golden princess. You can hire a tuxedo from them before you for from formalwear at princess and its there for you in your cabin when you arrive. i have done this and its great. I cant wait to go on my cruise again and i am sure you will love it

It is probably worth buying a tux, as i'm sure you will get hooked. If you shop around you can find some keen prices. If you opt for any time dining you can still book a table, ask for one by a window and just for 2 if thats what you want.Sea Princess is a lovely ship and your ports of call are great spend some time researching and you can go every where on your own.

We went on our first caribean cruise in 2002 followed by 2003 & 2004 the formal nights then were "full black tie/evening dress" events and were wonderful, the other nights were although still shirt/tie/jacket and the Ladies were always lovely.
We booked on Friday for a Med cruise next August on the Ruby Princess, I get the impression the dress code is now much more relaxed, personally I think that's pity but I'm sure we will have a wonderful time.
