I visited Don Paco Castilla with my mother and two daughters aged 6 and 8 at the end of May 2006. We found it was very bland, boring and not what we'd expected. My mother is 65 and she thought it was boring. The restaurants are not very clean, in the one that we visited which led out to another pool area there were flies crawling into the ice-cream cart and dying there. We thought this was a dirty cart and were shocked to be offered some ice-cream from it---needless to say we turned down the offer!!! The pools were very cold and there were stray kittens, how cute for the children to play with?? WRONG!!!! their eyes were infected and yet the staff made no effort to remove them, some parents were even allowing their children to play with them--despite the obvious risks of glucoma.
My mother has walking difficulties and despite us notifying them of this we were put on the third floor---with no lift!! put it this way, I run the marathon and I'd difficulty getting up the stairs in the heat-never mind my mother with arthritis!!
The entertainment wasn't great to be honest, there is one entertainment room downstairs and it's dark and dingy something you'd expect a cheap nightclub to be like in a run down part of town. The entertainers themselves made the effort but their budget seemed to be none existant.
The staff were not in the least helpful, in fact they ignored you when you asked them questions and God forbid anybody had a problem. There was a couple there who'd had their apartment broken into twice and their money and camera equipment stolen and the general attitude from the staff was so what--that's your problem nothing to do with us, so go away and stop bothering us!!
This area is not too far from the main town but not at all safe at night and very very dark.....do not go anywhere alone when it starts to get dark here!!
Unless you are very sure on your feet there are few places on the compound safe for you.............there are numerous stairs and bad paths.
Other guests are alright but there are a good few rowdy boisterous ones and they don't mind saturating you or your food or your books, so beware.
What can I say that's good about this place-----well there is a supermarket that's okay, but don't even try and get in one minute before closing time----a couple who'd just arrived with their baby were hoping to get some milk for the baby----no chance, they were told where to go in no uncertain terms.
The aparthotel isn't too far from the town. There are plenty of kids around, if your idea of a good holiday is to sit beside the pool and watch your kids swim then it's okay, just so long as you don't have any problems whatsoever because the staff are rude and unhelpful. Also don't forget the steady footing and bug spray---you'll need both in extreme measures in this place. Don't get me wrong Lanzarote is a lovely place---we've been there lots of times just not to this aparthotel and although we plan to return to Lanzarote at some stage we definitely won't be staying at this hotel... Our advice to anyone who's booked this resort--------Try and change your accommodation---if that can't be done Try and change your destination. If all else fails go anyway but stay in a tent on the beach------it's bound to be way more luxurious than this place and you'll enjoy your stay much more.
Good Luck.[/FONT]
