Hi Phil

Just read your email on Holiday Watchdog. Because of how everyone else at works holidays have fallen this year, and being able to bok our dog sitter, we are stuck with having to come on the 15th of October this year, or the 2nd of July. We are staying in Rhodes town, but are a bit worried about what will be open and what the weather will be like in October, can you advise please on what it is like and what is still ongoing at that time of year, like, restaurants open, old town market, shops etc and how much sun, We went to Majorca this year on the 2nd of October and had terrible rain, and tornado's can you beleive it !! We normally go to Egypt at the beginning and the end of the season and that is always good, and we know you are much further south and east than Majorca, but it is a bit worrying. If you could get back to me I would really apreciate it

Many thanks

Hi Phil,

My partner and I are moving to Lindos to live in a few weeks fingers crossed and was wondering if you could give me some names and numbers of apartments we could ring for a long term rent.

Anywhere in Lindos is fine but we want to try and get accomodation arranged before we arrive.

Thanks

You will find it very hard & unwise to look for long term rent before going to Lindos. Also you need a Greek Tax number before opening a Greek Bank account etc. This can only be done in Rhodes. I know cos we are going to live in Rhodes next June. We went on 2 weeks holiday in May 2008, & got everything sorted. Found brand new apartment, got tax no & bank account. You NEED a Greek Tax number before you can rent. This involves going to Tax office in Rhodes Town. First you q to get the forms [only in Greek] , then q again. Get there early. We did but still took 2 hours. Tax office opens @ 7.30am. Passports & copies are required. We also waited a few days for our rental contract to be translated into English. The Greek legal system like everything else works slowly.

HI Phil,
My children are going to a camp in Afandou Rhodes for three weeks. I am also going, but not staying at the camp. I would like to be close enough to be there everyday. Do you know the name of any camps for children in Afandou, and somewhere close to the camp where I can book lodging that will be nice and clean, but not ridiculously priced? This is a trip that is sponsored so we have to wait to get information, and I hate to not be prepared and wait until the last minute. Any information on the area would be great. Especially if you know the name of the camp.

Thanks so much for all your help,
Eleni

There are no camps near Afandou. There was Faliraki Camping but that closed a few years ago. So far as I know there are no legal sites on Rhodes. Rough camping is forbidden.

I don't think it is a camping site, but rather an organized camp, like the Yuppi camp in Halkidiki.

Hi Phil, what a great idea, you can't beat local knowledge.

My partner and I are celebrating my 50th Birthday at the Atrium Palace Spa Hotel in Kalathos in September. What is it REALLY like and what is in the immediate area?? I have visited Lindos before but would like a fantastic restaurant for the evening of my Birthday. Any good ideas ??

Have hopes that the hotel might give us an upgrade or a free dinner but maybe thats too much to ask for!

Thanks Phil, any information woukd be great.
