Hi Mrs O - you could try my old stamping ground - south west Scotland - it's the Devon and Cornwall equivalent. Kircudbrightshire and Wigtowshire have great unspoiled areas - beaches to yourself, palm trees, moors and sea cliffs etc.
If you wanted an inland holiday (remotish) try Glen Lyon or (slightly less remote) the Cannich area around Loch Ness or Indeed a visit to the Scottish Borders can be smashing, particulary in spring / autumn if you didn't want to go too far
West coast - try the area around Glencoe (Ft william not too far away), sea views try Oban (and a boat to Mull) or further North the Glen Sheil area around Loch Duich and Dornie
Even further North and west - Wester Ross and Ullapool
Then there all the islands, Speyside, the Cairngorms - the choice is almost limitless!!
May and early June can be good but July to September you will encounter the midge (and it's not just in the Highlands and the West coast) best repelant, Avon skin so soft - Forest glade hand / body cream- pink topped bottle ( the green top stuff is not so good)
Oh and bring some waterproofs - in tune with the latest fad to rename airports to famous people - Glasgow is being renamed Wet, Wet, wet international airport

Hi all I'm new here, and was just scouting about for new things to do in bonnie scotland when i stumbled upon this thread, I have just returned from a trip to BEAULY which is near Inverness, it was absolutely beautiful there, we stayed in a B&B called 'archdale' which was on the high street, the town itself had all we needed, trinket shops, cafes, take aways, and co-op's, which was great as we have 2 small children and frequently ran out of bits for them...The B&B was surprisingly cheap compared to the other places to stay there and was immaculate too with light airy rooms beautifully decorated, they even had a guest lounge where the kids could watch tv and chill out and we met some other great guests in the lounge. We ordered dinner at the B&B which was lovely as was breakfast (spoilt for choice) we were worried about not having high chairs etc but archdale supplied everything (high chair/plastic spoons/bath seat/ travel cot) the owners were lovely and told us of some great walks in the nearby area that would be suitable for the buggy, they gave us a lowdown on all the attractions around there too. They have a dog of their own (who is a huge softie really) and welcome other dogs.
I cant fault them really and I will be making a return visit.

Hi, i go to Scotland every year and its wonderful. If you stay in Perthshire you are more or less in the middle and can tour anywhere easily. How old are your children because there are so many activities for them if they are adventurous, horse riding, quad biking, go karting, loads of outdoor persuit centres and water sports (all off these i have been made to do by my son!!!). Make sure you pack warmish clothes no matter what season you go (lightweight waterproof jackets). If you do go take the kids to the trout farm in Crieff. They clean the ones you catch and you take them home to cook, Ewan Mcgregor used to work there for StarWars fans. Theirs so much to do and see too long to go into but if you have any questions and let me know what sort of accomodation your after will do some seaching for you.
Hope this helps

Well not been here in a while so i thought id reply to this,
i DID go in the end, and found a bloomin brilliant cottage,
www.westerlix.net.
the pictures dont do it justice, but we had a brilliant time there, openede the door and booted the kids out to have adventures in the woods,
very central position so we mangage to see a lot of scotland in that week from Pitlochry, to Loch ness, and the journey to that was fabulous its self.
there
few years late but try it, its fab

Have you tried Scottish sites? I don’t know if they have any Christmas 2009 or New Year 2010 left but www.cottages-and-castles.co.uk is a big site and does show availability. Have castles for rent !! J Good luck and let us know what they are like.
