Hi all
Has anyone been to Cairo and seen the pyramids from sharm el sheikh? Our tour operator is quoting 170 (gbp) each person from Sharm to Cairo. Is it worth going? does anyone know where we can get it cheaper?
Thanks
Vin

I am sure that you will be able to get cheaper from someone within the resort.
There are plenty of threads discussing this on the Sharm forum
I paid just 105 for the day and had no less of a day than folk that had paid the tour operators price!
Look for the Coral Sea Resort thread and someone mentions a contact called Hany.
You will find that there is a strange "under economy" that exists....as in not through the books!
Whatever you decide........do visit the pyramids....they are unbelievable!!!!
Have a look at my photos at www.pbase.com/iaintwoeyes where you find loads of Cairo photos.

Hi. We went to Sharm last August (2005). You must do the pyramids. We booked in resort and paid 40.00 oer adult and 30.00 for my son who was 10 at the time. Quiet a long trip but slept for a lot of it. Take an MP3 player and chill. The pyramids are incredible. Well worth the journey. If I remember the company I booked with in Sharm I will re-post.
Enjoy

We went with Thomas cook to Cairo on their 2 day trip. Cost around 150pp icl night in hotel which was beautiful. Trip extremely tiring, minibus journey there was awful (ran over a dog, driver nodding off, breaking down) Got dragged round museum, ripped off by the "thomas cook approved" papyrus shop. Worth doing as its something you'll only do once, but i would go with an independant company in naama bay. We only went with Thomas Cook for piece of mind and didnt get that.

You've probably been and gone by now but, for anyone else ...
I arranged our own trip through one of the small independent travel agents in Naama Bay. (On the left side of the main drag as you're walking down from the taxi/security point. )
For five of us, we had our own minibus (loads of room to stretch out and snooze on the trip) with a full of soft drinks and water icebox, two drivers, armed security guard (who stuck to us like glue for the whole time) an english speaking guide and an extra english speaking egyptologist for the two days in Cairo. We had an overnight in an OK but not great hotel in Giza (rooftop swimming pool with a great view of teh pyramids) which included breakfast, lunch on the first day on a boat on the Nile in Cairo, admission to the Egyptian Museum, admission to the pyramids site...
the trip was arranged for what we wanted to see but the company was happy to arrange anything that we wanted.
The guys that we were with us were just the best. Friendly, hospitable, knowledgable, really good fun etc etc.
They were happy to stop anytime for cups of tea. fruit stalls, toilet stops, photo opportunities..
How much, I hear you ask? 90 UK pounds each. A bargain! Thomas Cook and the rest of the holiday companies take your eyes out and come back for the sockets

Hell all,
First post here. Myself and my girlfriend have just booked to go to Sharm el Sheikh this weekend (28th Jan). We're considering taking a trip to see the pyramids, but as we are only there for 7 days we ideally want to only take a day trip from Sharm if possible. What would people recommend?
Is flying expensive? Is a coach/minibus journey too long to do in one day? Any help much appreciated!

Flying would be your best option....leave Sharm at around 6am and back in your bed before 10pm. Very tiring day but well well worth it.
The coach trip is about a 8 hour journey I believe??? So you are away for the best part of two days. You do see a lot more of Egpyt but at the cost of a day of your holiday!
I flew for 105 pp last March

Whats the best way to go about booking flgihts in order to get them for a decent price - through an agent or direct with the airline? Is it possible to book beforehand? I went the egypt air website but there didn't seem to be an online booking option.
