Cojo
As far as I am concerned Sharm is 'not great'. My Opinion. Nothing wrong with Ayia Napa, at least it's clean, the people are great, and they treat you with respect.

Personally, I think Ayia Napa is a dump. Don't go.

BTW Sekhmet, I appreciate your tips. I think I will spend a day assessing Sharm, if it's not to my taste, I'll head up the Aqaba coast towards Eilat and see what the other resorts offer.

I'm really tempted to go over to Israel for the dolphin swimming someone mentioned on another thread. I was speaking to a business associate in Tel Aviv earlier today and he mentioned the same place, said it was awesome.

Thanks wfcmoog; you're welcome - yes, Eilat gets far better comments than Dolphinella, from what I've read.
Good idea about seeing Sharm for yourself.

Sophie - whether your initial comment remained on the tips thread or was moved to here doesn't change the intonation of your brief statement, which was neither balanced nor infomative. The poster N62 has said what could be termed as negative comments about Sharm, but nobody has shouted him / her down as he / she has been constructive in their comments & his text is free of emotion...it's just neutral.
Taking out your frustrations on fellow posters isn't going to alter our perception of Sharm or the experience you had! It's also possible that any newbies will just dismiss what you say because of the way that you say it, so that's a waste of your energy then, no-one elses. Any valid points are then lost.

Insulting me really doesn't help your credibilty. You have just lost any last vestiges.......& you didn't have much to start with!
The tips thread does explain about scams & entrapments. It also gives websites which can be used to report problems.
I have also said that I have experienced negative things whilst in Egypt, but it isn't connected to Sharm so I haven't posted about it on here.
I have a life thank you, a very good one; that silly statement about "getting one" is so last decade.

I was also very ill and needed a drip to hydrate me so that I could fly home the next day. The upside was the Doctor in the hotel was excellent.

I took plastic glasses with me, because I read somewhere on the egypt forum that the glasses were dirty/scratched. I never even opened them, they weren't needed.

I went to Egypt because I wanted something a bit different, and it was, my kids could't fault it, I liked it but I did not expect that constant heat it was relentless.
My advice to anyone going for the first time would be to go in spring or autumn.

Sophie, was it ALL bad? I'm sure there must be at least one nice thing you can say.

The PERFECT holiday is hard to find, there is always some niggle no matter how small.

We were going to go to Sharm at Easter 2009 but have decided not to go due to so many reviews being so negative refering to 'Egyptian Tummy' upsets and other tummy bugs.

During August 2006 I became ill with what I thought was food poisoning on the day we flew back. The evening before after eating dinner at our 2* (my opinion) I had a few tummy cramps.
Within 36 hours of landing back in Blighty I was seriously ill and rushed to hospital by ambulance. I had severe bleeding from the bowel, hooked up to drips, antibiotics, xrays, blood tests, other tests(!?) and with the constant threat of having my large bowel removed. Luckily after a week (and a loss of a stone in weight) I was showing signs of improvement (Colitis as it was dignosed ) and was discharged. Two years on, I'm still under a consultant at the hospital to 'keep an eye on things'.

And all this after visiting Madeira; not Egypt, nor Turkey or any other middle east or African country.

I completely understand why some people are put off going to places when they here reviews of 'Egyptian tummy' or other stomach illnesses. Sometimes it isn't as simple case of bad food or a 24/48 hour tummy bug. As I found out and experienced it can get quite serious and nasty.

Come on everybody, lets get real here......you can get ill anywhere in the world if your personal hygiene is not of a high standard.

All countries including the UK have food poisoning problems if the establishments hygiene isn't of a high standard.

I have to add that you've heard from probably 5 or 6 people that had stomach upsets. That means that maybe...just maybe.....thousands of holiday makers didn't have any problems.

OFF TOPIC [I'm going to Goa again next year...maybe I should think again because of the number of cases of malaria recently....NO CHANCE!]

Sorry.......I just wouldn't change my plans because of a tiny tiny tiny minority.

Yes, you can get ill anywhere in the world but when you're thousands of miles from home, in the care of foreigners it can get a little scary.

And Beg your pardon but there was nothing wrong with my personal hygiene. The hospital I recuperated at made that VERY clear. From the moment I set foot in the hotel I could tell that I had to be extra careful.

Like I said it takes only one incident to but the frighteners up some people, like it did me. It hasn't put me off, only made me more careful in future no matter where I go 2* or 5*.

As I said in my last post, I fell in Madeira, not a third world country. And no it hasn't put me off. I'm going again for the third time on Monday 18th!

So there!
