Tips for 1st Timers
Care to elaborate Sophie?
: )
I know it can be a culture shock. Even tho the Tips for 1st Timers thread explains some of the problems one may encounter, it's really down to the individual's taste as to whether or not they like Sharm. It's not the "real Egypt" in so far as history goes (apart from St. Catherine's & Mt. Sinai) but it still has some attractive features, like guaranteed good weather, virtually 365 days a yr & some good excursions, wonderful marine life, nice hotels.................

The people are rude, the place is dirty. I have never been ill on holiday before, until I went to Sharm, this was the case with a lot of people. Walking into Naama, and seeing great big puddles of wee, and believe me that is what it was. They are also rip of merchants. Never ever again.

What I didn't like, was the way the men hang around the ladies toilet. I waited for the cleaner to finish mopping the floor and come out before I went in but when I came out he there again filling up the paper towels. When more women went in he followed them and mopped the floor again.
My fourteen year old daughter had her hair braided on the beach, they accidently dropped the bands in her lap and didn't hesitate to pick them up again.
A lot of the young men especially were very touchy feely with young girls of course they claimed it were accidents but I'm not so sure.

I must say ive been all over and this is one place i wasnt impressed with and would only return if it was free.
We spant days ill as well, our hotel was spotless. Food as horrid a mix if all sorts of stuff you couldnt put together and the drink was rank.
The staff were ok in there but they do ask for tips which i found rude. I also felt unsafe in namma bay, one male shop keeper even swore at me when i refused to pay £5 for a fridge magnet!!!
The only things i enjoyed was quad bikes and Hard rock cafe.
I must say i do know people who like it and have returned. Im glad i went to see it for myself.

we have been 4 times to egypt and love it and i know many people feel the same, each to their own though.
yes it can be a hassle in nama bay, my advice is just keep saying no thank you and keep walking, hard rock is good, and mcdonalds are great (we dont usually touch them in this country)
the hotels are great (the ones we have stopped in are anyway) and have never had any probs with the food.
all in all, youcould not get 2 weeks self catering in canaries for the price you get all inc in egypt
thanks y`all

going in 21 days to the Novotel in Narma can't wait, this is the 3rd time, never seen any of the issues talked about. You really have to do your home work going somewhere like narma, my first time of being ill was Spain........could say i'd never go back but that would be naive wouldn't it! luck of the draw i'm afraid

I would advise that you do some research before you go. Sharm may not be everyones cup of tea, but hey telling people not to go is pretty narrow minded? Personally I love it!
I have been to Sharm 4 times, never been ill, seen some fabulous fish & coral while snorkeling & diving, ate lots of lovely food, met some lovely people, enjoyed the all year round sunshine and all at a bargain price.
I just say no thanks to any shopkeepers who are hassling. Once they know you have been to Sharm before they leave you alone. Like water of a duck back to me!!
Naama bay may be tacky, but there are some great places to eat and it is safer to walk than my home town in the UK!!
