Just wondering why people are shocked that Egypt is so hot in the summer months? Don't you check average temperatures / rainfall as a first 'must do' before you book a holiday?

Please do not go to Sharm El Sheikh!!!!! Just returned from there from a week over Christmas and it was the worst one of my life. I went with my husband and two kids and we were all ill with sickness and diarrheoa. Food in the hotel was dire, lukewarm most days, had to really look hard for something to eat, bacteria had a field day with those metal containers left open. All guests (including English), were always pushing you out of the way both in the restaurant and bars. Bottles of water were like gold dust, you had to beg the bar staff for them, even though were were All Inclusive. Nothing to do on a night. If you get chance to cancel this and book for somewhere else, then do it rather than wasting all that money! We stayeed in the Park Inn (formerly known as Golden Resort), but I nicknamed it Park Life after the Blur song. Good luck you will need it.

Er....Judithchalmers....aren't you Singapore sling on the "Red Sea thread?"
In which case, I will repeat my reply to your exact same post:
Singaporesling; that's really unfortunate. However, I wouldn't go AI; I think (from what I've read / heard) that it's a disaster waiting to happen re: folk poking, prodding food & it becoming luke warm. Staff & other guests' hygiene may leave a lot to be desired.
We 4 have only ever been B+B, 4 times, that's like 1 person being 16 times & not once have we been ill. My friend has been 14 times & has never been ill. The tummy situ is not mandatory in Egypt, any more than anywhere else.
I will be doing a review of the Jolie Ville Resort & Casino; we have never experienced anything like Singaporesling describes within the hotel.
As I said, Sharm is not for everyone, but you can't just dismiss it cos the tummy bug situ; the Tips thread gives a lot of advice about this & most hotels have a Dr on call 24/7 should the need arise. I know folk who have had to use the Dr & have praised the service in various hotels.
It's a 3rd world country, not EU, so one has to expect something entirely different re: culture & ways. The hotel entertainment is generally dire. There isn't much to do in the eves except people watch, go to Alf Leila wa Leila, bowling or stroll (apart from the clubs). Sometimes, we just chat to the locals in the shops, with whom we have become friendly during our visits. They enjoy asking questions & swapping info on our 2 countries. It's a totally different place to go.
It's a wonderful place to relax & also take advantage of the trips to Cairo, Luxor, Petra, St Catherine's etc.

All the hotels in sharm are excellent, you have grumpy sods who complain about everything, I stayed at the park inn and it was the best place I have ever stayed. Do the quad biking, I went on the 4am trip and there was only 2 of us and our guide, we got to watch the sunrise over tiran island. I would also suggest snorkling but go ras mohammed, the sharks bay trip was brilliant but its the same as snorkling of the beach at your hotel. Another must do is the bedouin trip you go into a camp and after dinner you go star gazing, take a digital camera as you can get a picture of the moon. Im going again booking at the end of the month and cant wait, hope you have a great trip.

Hi Steve
How was your holiday at the Golden Sharm resort. We are looking at going there in two weeks and wondered if it was worth booking.

Pigtails,
I think you mean Antinal.
Immodium is not effective in many cases of upset tums out there. Antinal should cost about 90p from a chemist; much more & it's rip off.
For tips / prevention of upset tums, plz see the appropriate section under the Tips for 1st Timers thread, Sharm forum.
Some of it is also common sense like watch alcohol intake, watch the sun, as it's a "dry" heat, so you don't realise how much you're burning & dehydrating.
Drink about 3 litres of water a day!

I have just booked another holiday in August to The Golden Sharm Resort - I enjoyed it so much last year. And to be honest with the price I have paid for the holiday if I get a bit fed up with the food on offer, it is so cheap to eat in the town that I will go there for the evening. Even dining out 'expensive' at Hard Rock is so NOT expensive! As for tummy upsets - we had no problems but we totally avoided any tap water - even for brushing our teeth. Water is cheap from the shop just down the road, the fridge in the room is free, so that solved that problem. The only time I had a slightly upset tummy - which I think was more to do with the sun - I went to the local chemist and bought some amazingly cheap tablets and they worked in seconds. They say Imodium doesn't work in Sharm. So if anyone is going in Mid August - see ya there
