I have also read about Pete on here & also another forum. I can see the attraction to want to book thru an English speaking person but, if he runs a bar does he have the correct insurance to run trips too? Is it all official & above board? How can he afford to run trips at half the price?
Most taxi drivers will want to organise your trips for you but i doubt they are authorised to do so & what happens if anything goes wrong? they all say they have a brother / cousin / mate who can help.
Pete may well be a really nice guy but some people may not be doing him any favours as some on here & the other forum (TA) seem to sign up specifically to come on, post about Pete, sing his praises & that's it. No real trip report or tips for anyone else.
Soliciting is not allowed on here or on TA. There have been cases where posters come online to promote their taxi driver / new Egyptian friend (the taxi driver etc will be giving the same flannel to the next plane load of tourists!) cos they're on a promise of discounted or free trips next time.
I have no wish to do Pete down, I don't know him; I'm just saying to be careful & to anyone who wants to recommend Pete, maybe give a balanced report so my / mods suspicions aren't aroused!
There are so many local vendors that you will be spolit for choice & can afford to shop around. Fayed Travel, on His Maj the King of Bahrain St are spoken of highly. They are on the same street as the Camel Bar, nr the Jolie Ville end of the Street.
RSM, opo the Seagulls Bar of Jolie Ville are good - we did Coloured canyon with them. People also speak highly of Kenouz Travel on Sultan Qabas Street, which you can find by standing with your back to the Hard Rock, look right & take the right street of the fork. Kenouz is about half way up to where the rd would meet the main one thru Na'ama & is on the right.
There are loads more, incl arranging trips thru your hotel.
Why book trips in advance? You don't know how you will feel till you get there. You won't miss out, trips are plentiful & run daily in most cases. What happens if you get the runs & can't do the trip? If you're there, at least you know hwo you feel.

..........&, if you wait till you book with a local vendor, you can beat them down on price, especially if you book more than one trip with them. Fayed Travel def allow haggling.
