Don't forget to read the Tips for 1st Timers thread at the top of the Sharm forum.............lengthy, I know, but it will give advice that should help prepare you in several areas.

Hi there!
My husband and I stayed at the Mexicana in January 2006 and it was great. It was our first time in Egypt and we loved the country so much that's where we spent our honeymoon.
You may have seen reviews on other sites that aren't too favourable about this hotel, but we honestly really enjoyed ourselves and had no complaints. I really think it depends on your board basis. It seems everyone that has been on an All Inclusive basis has a gripe about the hotel, but when you read into it, it's actually only the evening meal they have a problem with. We went bed and breakfast and did try the All Inclusive buffet one night and I can see where they're coming from. But breakfast was fine, not your usual egg and bacon, but you're not in England, so why should you expect that.
We ate in both of the other restaurants that weren't part of the all inclusive and always enjoyed our meal. At the time there was also room service where you could get a pizza for £2.50 (and it was lovely). And the lunchtime grill menu was great too and again not expensive.
The room was lovely and clean with 2 double beds, a balcony and a walk in shower. Staff were great...just understand that Egyptians like to constantly joke with you; you can either get annoyed with it or just go along with it.
When we went, we travelled into Naama Bay quite a few evenings and found some lovely restaurants. There was a Chinese restaurant in a shopping centre along the main strip that was great, but I can't remember the name. Prices by taxi really depend but we certainly paid no more than £3 a trip.
My parents went on our recommendation at the beginning of this year and it sounds like there's been a lot of development since we went, and a shopping centre with restaurants nearbly (on google earth it says 0.66 miles away to walk.)
We liked it so much that we've booked to go again this December. It's just a great cheap getaway. You're not paying for 5* luxury, so don't expect it, but it certainly more than exceded my expectations.
I hope you enjoy it!
