Can anybody recommend a nice hotel in Austria for ski-ing? Family of 4.Children are 15 and 11. None of us have ever skied before. Would like a hotel with a pool, not too far from the slopes, with ice- skating and toboggoning not too far either. I have read reports that Niederau can be a bit short of snow. Can anyone help me. Thanks X

I'd go to Zell am See. If the lake is frozen, you'll be able to go skating on it. There's a glacier at Kaprun, just up the road if snow is a bit short in Zell. You've also got the option of taking the train into Salzburg if you find that skiing just ain't for you.
The tutition is excellent to, with some really good blue runs.

I now live in niederau so i suppose i am a little biased, but here goes. Niederau is a great family/first time resort. It will have plenty of skiing for newbies, but might not be enough when you can ski well. The hotel Simmervirt hotel Austria and the hotel waselhof all have indoor pools.
The village has numerous apre ski bars and 2 nightclubs for the youngsters the cave bar or the dorfstuben.
The village is very safe, and you can let your kids wander freely with no worries. its also small enough for them not to get lost!!
There is no ice skating nearby but i think you can toboggan in nearby Auffach. But beware!!!it quite hairraising and can be dangerous depending how fast you go!
The only down side to Niederau is its position, yes it can be short of natural snow, but that does not happen very often. hope this helps
