| I will be visiting Sousse in July for the first time.
There have been so many mixed reviews on the internet a lot leaning more towards the negative aspect.
Is alcohol really that expensive Vodka mainly, i'm not a caner but if it is i'd like to know then i can get some drinks at the airport in uk.
Has anyone stayed at the Samara Hotel.
Are the guys really that bad? not overly worried as i can look after myself.
Also where are the best places to go out in if any, and hasanybody been to the water park?
many thanks

| Don't know of the Samara Hotel but I like Sousse, it sort of has a bit of everything ie great beach, bars, clubs, restaurants and a bit of local culture as well.
Alcoholic drinks are cheap in Tunisia however they will be locally produced, anything imported will come at a premium price as government policy is to encourage the use of locally produced food and drink (something our government should look at IMHO) however surprisingly the locally produced alcoholic drinks aren't bad at all.
Young Tunisian men can be a bit of a nuisance to single women however if you politely but firmly say you're not interested it will usually work especially if they are hotel employees as any job connected with tourism is a prime job.

| Kelly,
I am returning to the Royal Beach Hotel for the 3rd time in 3 years. This time I am taking a daughter and her son. If I did not feel safe, I would most certainly not be doing this.
If this is your first visit to Tunisia you may find it a little strange. Talk to your rep and you will get lots of good information. If you are shopping and getting pestered by traders, cross your hands in front of you and give a posotive "NON". French being the second language in Tunisia, this normally works.
As to the purchase of booze in the resort that is a bit of a problem. Being a Muslim country it is not possible to buy it over the counter. If you have a special tipple, buy it in the duty free prior to your flight. The only place that I know in Sousse for Non Nationals to buy booze over the counter is "MAGAZINE GENERAL" and you will need your passport.
Hope this of some use to you. Was going to sign "Yammas", whoops, I work on too many Greek sites. Have a good holiday, enjoy one of the pirate trips, a great day out. Walk to the harbour and haggle, you will get a good price. Beware of beach touts offering trips unless other guests have tried them, otherwise you may learn the hard way.
Have a very good holiday in Sousse.
Best Regards, Colin.

| Just to take up a comment made about buying booze, many supermarkets sell bear and wine, Tunisia is a very moderate Muslim country many Tunisians do drink alcohol 'legally' it is a secular country, unlike a lot of other Muslim countries so religion does not have any bearing on the law of the country.

| Vodka costs 5-7 TD per shot.
Whisky is very rare and also very expensive
You can purchase 'spirits' at the duty free in the uk and take them with you.
If asked a customs in Tunisia about the alcohol - 'it's for personal use'
You will be pestered to sell it by the locals.
Put your 'Vodka' in a water bottle, just make sure your 'waiter/bar staff' don't take it thinking its water. Keep it in a bag.
If you want whisky, put tht in a coke bottle
Hope this helps

| HI KELLY....DON'T KNOW IF YOU'VE GONE TO SOUSSE YET BUT LET ME KNOW WHEN YOU GET BACK!!! IT IS ONE OF THOSE PLACES YOU WILL EITHER LIKE OR NOT LIKE. WEATHER THIS TIME OF YEAR IS GLORIOUS, BEACHES ARE BEAUTIFUL...THE GUYS CAN BE A BIT OF A PAIN, YOU JUST HAVE TO BE FIRM & USUALLY WALKING STRAIGHT ON AND NOT BEGINNING A CONVERFSTAION CAN HELP. YOU WILL GET ASKED INTO THEIR SHOP TO SEE WHAT THEY HAVE....THEY CAN BE QUITE PUSHY, BUT AGAIN, BE FIRM. ALL IN ALL, I VISITED TUNISIA (SOUSSE) 7 TIMES...6 OF THOSE TIMES ALONE!!! I ALWAYS MET FELLOW SINGLE TRAVELLERS AND GROUPS WHO I MADE FRIENDS WITH BUT I WAS STILL HAPPY TO SOAK UP THE SUN ON MY OWN AND MEET UP LATER. THEY DO LIKE THE GIRLIES, ESPECIALLY IF YOU'RE BLONDE SO BEST TO REMEMBER THAT! UNFORTUNATELY, TOO MANY OF THEM WANT TO ENTER INTO A "RELATIONSHIP" KNOWING THAT THEY COULD GET TO ENGLAND? BELIEVE ME, IT HAPPENS!! THAT ASIDE, TUNISIA IS STILL A LOVELY HOLIDAY DESTINATION AND THE HOTELS ARE OF A REALLY GOOD QUALITY AND FOOD IS GREAT.
(Please try not to type in capitals as it makes it difficult to read and is also considered as "shouting" when used in forums)
