Salvador, Bahia, Brazil

Postby Explorer on Thu Oct 12, 2006 4:52 pm

Hi,

Not much about Brazil on this forum. I love Brazil. I often visit Salvador with my wife. Lots of great beaches, nice resorts (Praia do Forte, Sauipe), plus islands to visit in the bay. We have always organised our own travel, usually flying with Varig from Heathrow to Sao Paulo, then flying up to Salvador from there.

Anyone else go to Brazil often ? Any tips for other parts of Brazil?

Good things in Salvador:
Beaches along the coast - Flamengo, Prair do Forte, Sauipe resort
In town - Boi Preto bbq restaurant, music at Aeroclube, French Quartier.
Touristy - Pelourinho.

Be careful though, safe in places with lots of police about, be careful when travelling on your own. Keep to the busy areas.

Cheers,

Jon.

I was really interested to read your post Explorer and would love to hear more about your visits to this region. We were thinking about visiting the Bahia region in January but I think we will end up booking Goa this time and save our 2nd visit to Brazil for another holiday as I had highlighted so many trips it was looking very expensive!
We went to Natal last November and loved it.Now made easy due to direct flights from Gatwick.

I'm going to Salvador in August :) :) :)

I can't wait this will be my first time to Brazil!

In the first week we are going all around Brazil : The Amazon Rainforest, Igacu Falls, Copacobana beach, Rio de Janeiro and possibly Argentina/Paraguy/Uraguy.

The second week we are going back to Salvador and staying there for the rest of the holiday! We are staying in The Sauipe resort and Imostly want to go surfing Can you do that there? I'm not quite sure. If not are there any other good surf spots in Brazil?

Sooo excited woohoo!

hi
my boyfriend and i went to salvador stayed at iberostar bahia in praia de forte for 2 weeks last january.
weather was excellent.

the beach in praia de forte by our hotel you could walk for ages and not see one person gorgeous beaches lovely sea awesome. whenever i talk about holidays i always mention this place stunning is not a word strong enough to describe it. you can walk from here to praia de forte a long walk tiring 1 hour plus at leisrely pace not many shops along way bring some water. we walked in got taxi back somedays. taxis cheap too.

in praia de forte thete is a little resturant in the evening they have musicians the food is gorgeous it is just in from where u get out of taxi on ya right past a couple of shoe shops, the food was lovely cant recall the name. english owner has gorgeous bruchetta and salsa starter god mains too.
we didnt do cocobanna beach ect as we had just moved into our first home together.
this hotel is gorgeous amazing pools wicked bbqs at lunchtime.
the entertainment is shows ect gets a bit repetitive at times.
if you do games during day they have graduation shows early evening we won on darts 1st 2nd place not that i ever played before.
Best buys in brazil smirnoff vodka 3 a litre no lie
Havenanas go to first shop when out of taxi they sell other knick knacks too good price they give the boxes too as most other shops we found didnt.
the sun is very very strong in brazil bring lots of suncream as very expensive here kept in shop windows exposed to light.
im hoping to go bacjk jan feb 2009
i just wanna go back so bad any spare tickets glady accepted

BRAZIL a place i would not want to leave

HAVE A AMAZING TIME IM SURE YOU WILL

When you live in Brazil like we do it is not amazing, but for a tourist it can be.The beaches are lovely, but there is not much to offer overall to keep you interested for very long. But a cold beer on the beach is fabulous. You can see so many spots and we have seen and done it all.

I do not know what the fuss is about!
