Help needed-Oct 2008-Luxury hotel for young couple-Advice pl

Hi,
I am trying to book myself and my boyfriends first holiday abroad....
Were ideally looking at gran canaria, but we have never been to the canary islands so who knows that may be the wrong choice?!
Were looking for a happy medium, no 18-30 or no total family place..As were only 23..
Were hoping to go mid oct, not sure where is the hottest place?
If any one has any suggestions/tips/advice on anything it would be gratefully received as you can see i know nothing!!!
