Yoav
we've been to Sri Lanka 5 times and would go again tomorrow, so it just goes to show that everyone has different views.
A lot of your post seems to be about the Hotel Eden and the service you received there.
I can't comment on that as we've never stayed there.
Not having the TV working properly seemed to be a big issue for you, I'm with Digs123 on this one - who needs a TV when you're on holiday. (My opinion).
All our experiences with hotels, either in resort or whilst travelling on tours, have been positive.
We found the Sri Lankan people to be lovely and the food delicious.
We've travelled quite a lot in Sri Lanka, Goa and various countries in the Far East and I think you'll find exactly the same problems that you encountered with SOME of the taxi drivers in other countries, not just Sri Lanka.
As Digs123 has already said, Sri Lanka IS a 3rd world country so there's not likely to be 6 lane motorways.
From your post, I'd say that you unfortunately chose the wrong place to take your honeymoon.
If anyone ever asks us if we would recommend Sri Lanka or Goa, we always say 'No. WE LOVE it but it's not everybody's cup of tea, so do your research before booking'.

haha - completely agree with you both - Mr "don't go to SriLanka" sounds like one of these people who LOVES to complain and thrives off negative issues.
I personally would not be paying hundreds of pounds to be sitting in bed watching telly. and guess what - some countries have ants - be better prepared and get over it!!!
You can't blame service of one hotel on the whole entire country.
So narrow minded - makes my blood boil!

We have been to Sri lanka several times and what Yoav said seems alien to us.Although this is a 3rd world country and yes there is a lot of poverty, but every Sri Lankan we met were the most helpful nicest people we have come across, and we have travelled all over the world,we have found more rudeness in 5 star accomodation in Jamaica, which I will say cost 5 times as much.
We were invited into there homes for dinner, ginger tea or whatever they can serve you and they do serve you,we are great believers in you reap what you sew, maybe you were not as polite as you could have been and as for TV remotes did you not go to visit any of the wonderful sights to see in this beautiful country.
If the hotel you picked was your choice then maybe research would have been a good idea,as you said it was your honeymoon.

Dear digs 123
Just Spent Christmas in Sri Lanka. Took a package with Emirates flying to Colombo via Dubai and back. Stayed in an Eco resort just north of Colombo, (Ranwelli Eco Holiday Resort) situated on its own island, and reached by a 'punted' pontoon. Had a terrific holiday. The people are very friendly, the place and the surrounds are welcoming, and the food was good. Depends what you are looking for but we found it quiet and restful, and fun. Visited the local town, the elephant sanctuary, ate amazing and cheap lobster etc, and took a couple of Ayurvedic treatments. Weather was hot without being uncomfortable and never troubled by bugs, mosquitoes etc. Never had any exposure to the rebel Tamil's. Have fun

Hi Street Bob
I'm due to go to Sri Lanka next week -so glad to hear that you have just got back from agreat holiday.
I wanted to ask if you got any special insurance to cover the civil unrest whilst you were away or just got the standard one?
Was security heightened whilst you were out there?
Many thanks - as you can tell I'm a bit of a nervous traveller!!
