Stupa, whats it like?

Postby divergal on Fri Jan 27, 2006 2:54 pm

Hello, I want a really chill out 2 weeks beginning July. Must have sandy beaches and be NOT busy- dont mind a few tavernas and bars but no kareoke, clubs and such like. Would also like beaches to be quiet ( think I am hoping here) with not many kids (god, I sound like a right old whinger!) but you know what I mean. We have had kids they are grown up and we dont want the noise and hassle of loads of children runnign about

We go to Cyprus every year, we stay in the Amathus area just outside Limassol, I know where you are coming from, our kids have grown up and left and we like peaceful holidays now. The only problem is the kids break up in July so where ever you go in July there will be kids. Thinking about it though, I think they break up the middle of July, Scotland I believe break up sooner.

We went to Stoupa 3 years ago and loved it.Our kids are also grown up and we now go away with friends in the same position as us.That is "mature couples" not old fogies. It is a laid back place with some good tavernas and restaurants but no clubbing. There are a few nice bars and everything you need nearby. The beach is lovely.Sandy and not steeply shelving. It runs the length of the resort and is usually a bit quieter at the end on the left side. That said you aren't going to find any really quiet beach in the high season. The surrounding countryside is beautiful and if you hire a car there are plenty of places to visit. Most of the people we spoke to return there many times so that is a good recommendation in itself.WE are certainly going back soon.

Thanks for the replies. I know I am probably aiming a bit high after all we are going in July but a cuple of years ago went to Halkidiki at the same time of year and everything was just perfect except that the beach was rocky and I wasnt able to go in the sea for fear of falling or being just too painful on the feet. It was so quite there though. About 5 or 6 bars/tavernas and that was it. Bliss!

would recommend following islands/places in greece if you want a quiet and relaxing holiday:

Lefkas, Pelion, Finikounda, Naxos, Paros, Alonissos, Skopelos, Kalymnos and Ios. I would recommend booking with the smaller tour operators greek specialists.

Have you thought about Crete? there is a lovely quite fishing harbour called sissi. Have a look and see what you think? the locals tend to go there on a friday sat and sun for dinner. Great food
