Hotel Pomerie
Hello, myself and my boyfriend are coming to Bulgaria next week. Neither of us have been before and we are staying at the Hotel Pomerie, I have the read the reviews on this site which are a bit old, has anyone on the forum been there please?? I have also been a bit put off reading reviews of Bulgaria to be honest (since booking it) I have heard about poor dancing bears, beggars, prostitutes, poor flights with Balkan, people being robbed, stomach upsets, horrible toilets etc etc... Please can someone tell me some positive experiences of Sunny Beach!!!

Hi Stez24, we are going to sunny beach on Monday and having reviewed the resort have heard a lot of these too however I think that you just need to be careful, ok so there are thieves about....look after your valuables
DON'T give money to the guys with bears or you will just encourage them and the same with beggars as for the prostitutes well .....No again ignore them, be careful with food in the resort. but the reports on our hotel are excellent and i'm sure yours will be. have a fantastic time .....mike

Hi
I am going to sunny each tomorrow, went last year with my teenage daughter and was concerned as i had heard all the reports, read reviews and guide books, not familiar with your hotel, the main thing you need to know is DO NOT change your money anywhere but the crown plaza booths, they give best rate and give GENUINE lev, dont leave any valuables on beach, and guard your handbag with your life, especially in restaurants, best place for your money is hotel safe and just carry a daily amount, thankfully i had no problems and had a great holiday but others were not so lucky, bulgaria is a poor country which leads to crime, but you wil meet some lovely people there.....take a visit to nearby nessebar, its lovely and the waterpark is very cheap with free transport and very no paying for chairs rings etc when you are there, also khans tent is very good
hope you have a great time

We (myself, hubby + 2 kids) stayed at the pomerie last august and had a fab time, please dont be put off by the outside apperance, we went B&B but never went for breakfast so i couldnt comment on the resturant, the rooms inc bathroom are spotless but haven't got air con so would advise that you either take fans with you or you can rent them from the shop just to the right of the hotel, the pool is clean but only one depth, just the right temp. the beach is 2 mins away and all you could want, theres a bar/cafe on the beach with a pool attached which is lovely to cool down in. we saw the bear once but have heard from another forum that its been rescued, never seen a prostitue, there was a little boy begger outside hotel but he never bothered or hussled anyone,
the resort is clean and the nightlife is lively, we a few times at a resturant called ocean bar which is where we had the welcome meeting and the food and staff were lovely,
If your looking fora good cheap clean resort beach holiday this hotel and sunny beach is ideal, we couldnt spend our money, sun never stopped shineing
please let me know if i can give you anymore info, we're going back to SB this aug, enjoy your hol

Came back this morning from Hotel Pomerie, Sunny Beach. The best thing about this hotel is the pool ( 5 Lev for a lounger all day and the same for an umbrella). The staff are unsmiling and don't speak very good English. Bedrooms are small - pillows are very lumpy! - but the bathrooms are OK. The showers leak and no bath mat is provided, just use one of the towels.
We had breakfast 3 days but it is not very good so we bought fruit juice and bananas from the Blue Supermarket up the road to the left where it was cheaper and larger than the one next to the hotel.
Food is OK in Ocean downstairs but the best meals were in National - Steak House (great Shepherd's Pie). On leaving hotel turn right and continue to Lotus Hotel, pass this on right and go up the little pedestrian street to National on right hand side. Good Food, good music and busy from 7pm onwards. The man at the front is a personality and don't be surprised if he kisses all the girls!
Sunny Beach is like Blackpool without the smell of fish and chips!!
All the shops are the same and there is a fair amount of hassling.
Reps tell you to change money in the hotels as it safer - 1 = 2.80 Leva; Euro 1 = 1.90 Leva. Only change what you need for the day.
Rooms at the front are very noisy from LAZUR across road, quieter at the back - just.
I would not recommend this hotel or Sunny Beach.
One visit to make is Old Nessebar. Go by taxi and return by boat or taxi.

I myself have not stayed in the pomorie but as for all the other things u mentioned,in all the time i have been going to sb which was my 7th year this year i have seen prostitues twice and that was late at night,i have never had upset stomach, the food is great in the resort,if u like a good steak go to h c andersons or neptun tavern, not many beggars this year either you get just as many at home,ok some toilets are not very nice but if your in a bar close to a hotel use there toilets thats what i do,i'm sure you will have a great time on your hols.
