Limones Bungalows - Playa Blanca Lanzarote

Postby Joan7 on Thu Jan 20, 2005 12:24 pm

Has anyone stayed at Playa Blance (or in particular the above bungalows) Has anyone any recommendations for restaurants and trips please? We are going in February and hope the weather will be about 68 - 70 degrees

Hi there

I have not stayed in those bungalows, but did make the most of all the trip & attractions to do & see whilst there.

It's definately worth hiring a car, as most parts of the island are easily accessible & the roads are generally very good. This will make it very easy to get around.

My girlfriend & I did a one day excursion which included a coach trip to ride camels. The coach will then take you further into the hills to visit the famously still-active volcanoe, where you have the option of having something cooked by the heat of the volcanoe barbeque style or alternatively they have a restaurant / snack bar. The coach ride itself is very nice, if a little hairy round the bends, with breathtaking views of the 'lunar' landscape in the hills of Lanzarote. (We managed to book our trip via our rep at our welcome meeting).

You can also do a submarine ride, (in a yellow submarine no less) which was something I was very glad I did, as we were both a little nervous about going underwater! We were glad to find that it was all very professional & 'safety first', the submarine itself was also very new, air conditioned & well looked after. Thoroughly enjoyed it!

If you can find time, you may also like to visit Papagayo Beach, which is on all the post cards, but the only way you can get to it is down a long bumpy road (if you have a hire car as we did, it's worth taking it very slow) but the wait is very worth it! Pristine sand, no litter (a few nudists but hey, live & let live) clear blue sea, real post card material!

Anyway, hope this is useful, Im very jealous! Have a great holiday & don't forget to submit your review after!

Hi Mark - thanks for the info - the submarine ride sounds good and also the trip to the National Park which I understand is all volcanic "moon" scenery. I am wondering if you went on the camel as they look very bumpy rides!

Hi Joan,

Yes, I did go on the camels! They have a long, long que of them all lined up. Seems like hundreds! Anyway, you get allocated your camel & they show you how to climb aboard & then 'Mr Camel' (who is resting on his knees & cannot be named for legal reasons) stands up. Lot's of shrieks from the more nervous passengers! He he!

Then, I guess it's no bumpier than riding a horse.... He he, I laugh as I think of it! But, you can feel the shoulderblades moving left & right. It's great fun & very safe.

They don't even spit that much!

Try this link for info on the submarine ride, I beleive they also now have two submarine options, so if you don't like the look of one....

Enjoy!

Thanks Mark - the submarine trip sounds great. Hope Puerto Calero is not too far from Playa Blanca as we are not hiring a car. Not sure about the camels - wil see how it goes! Joan

Back from Lanzarotte! Plata Blanca very nice - pleasant man made beach ideal for children as there are hardly any waves. Nice promenade leading into small town centre and some nice restaurants at the Limone end (much quieter that end). The Bangalows were nice but not much in the way of facilities on the site apart from the swimming pools - even the restaurant and bar closed about 9.30! We did not use the restaurant so cannot comment. Only trouble was the weather which was cold and very windy for the time of year - still we found some sun and hid behind the Verandah wall out of the wind!
