| buy a package holiday, with your contents required in writing to prevent
any confusion on arrival.packages are cheaper, but SHOP around, and don't be fobbed off,IE.return flights, hotel(some, book 3nts 4th free in bangkok)mention on booking>no loss.and stress when booking what can they offer better.for the same price. They always ask have you any quotes,Tell them i am looking for your best quote then i will decide.you are then in position to negociate, rather then them knowing your quote already then cut it by £10.

| When we go to the far east, we go with Premier Holidays who are based at Cambridge. They aren't the cheapest but they are reliable and efficient and their hotels are very good. Their guides/couriers are also very good and are always at the airport to meet you with your private transfers. Hope you enjoy Thailand, we love it.

| You'll arrive at Bangkok airport anyway, so it will be possible.
I stayed in the island of Koh Samui and a couple I met there stayed in Bangkok for a few days before getting a flight to the island, they just booked the hotels seperately and organised travel arrangements

Yes, you can spend a few days in Bangkok and then head off for some beach. But if you are on a tight budget the trip will be cheaper doing it yourself!
If you are a backpacker and young, you might want to head for Khao San Road where there are many cheap hotels or hostels. Maybe slightly older you may want to stay in the Siam or Sukhumvit Road area, lots of hotels at various prices. One advantage of a hotel off Sukhumvit or Siam is the Skytrain, (no Skytrain in the Khao San Road area.) The Skytrain connects many of the more popular areas of Bangkok quick and cheap.
You can arrange your own transportation to Phuket if you want, there are daily flights. Or you can go to some other places closer to Bangkok. Pattaya is a beach town, it has cheap hotels, cheap restaurants, cheap transportation, modern malls and lots o street vendors - but the beach stinks for swimming! Pattaya has a good beach for sunning yourself, good for walking and gawking but foreigners usually do not swim there! You can go to nearby Jomtien or Naklua though!
The bus ride from Bangkok to Pattaya is around 120 baht for a 2 to 2.5 hour ride. Buses leave from the Ekamai bus terminal, off a Skytrain stop. Use the A/C VIP bus, purchase the ticket from the Pattaya window. Don't purchase the ticket outside or from another source - go to the window!
At Pattaya you can also take a cheap 20 baht ferry ride to Koh Larn for swimming or other water sports. Link: http://kohlarn.com/
Pattaya is often thought of as a party town with lots of bars and entertainment. But Pattaya is the number one tourist destination for married couples, family groups and singles!
Keep in mind that you DO NOT have to be at a beach to get a tan, you can get a tan just walking around Bangkok or some other city like Chiang Mai. Thailand is warm all over from Phuket on up to North Thailand!
Have fun.
