We went to Thassos in May this year.We stayed at the Nikoletta apartments which aren't that far from La Luna. It's a very green island with lots of really small villages around the coast and a few inland. It's worth hiring a car for a couple of days as you can see everything you want without having to depend on the buses which didn't seem that frequent to us.Thassos town is quite nice and has some shops and good restaurants. The old ruins are worth seeing if you are into that sort of thing. We spent a lot of time at Scala Potamias. It wasn't too busy and the beach was lovely. We went for a week and found that was long enough as there isn't loads to do or see unless your'e a real beach lover.

Hi
We went to Thassos some time ago and it was a very strange but very good holiday. We landed at Kavala airport which is on the mainland then you get a ferry to the Island, As we approached the Island grew out of the mist, wonderful. As has been said it is known as the green isle and that it certainly is.Do hire a car and travel inland you will find abandoned villages up in the mountains that are stuck in a time warp, a total contrast to the resort areas. Enjoy we did

Yes we did take the car(4x4) over to Kavala, seem to remember we looked at some ruins then came back. After Thassos it seemed so hectic we much preferred the charm of the island, cant remember how much the ferry cost, but i know it wasn't expensive as the locals use it all the time. The Islanders were so trusting my mate and I sat at a seafront bar from 11am till 7.30 pm (had to go and change for dinner) when we asked how much we owed them the answer was how much have you had, well after 8 1/2 hours drinking We didn't have a clue, and neither did they. That was the cheapest day I have ever had on holiday.:occasion1

Thassos is our favourite Greek island. Unfortunately have been able to go for a few years.
It is a fantastic little island - you can drive around it in a couple of hours. We always hired a little fully-automatic bike - very cheap - from a place called Babi's in the square at Thassos town.
For a good restaurant try John's Place near Sotira - owners lived in Oz for a few years. He makes his own wine which is very nice (even for a person who does not normally like red).
Golden beach is worth a visit - you can get a boat from Thassos town and they pick you up as well.
