Calypso Aegean wonders cruise

Postby Wends on Thu Jul 24, 2008 3:09 pm

Hi we have booked on this cruise for the 11th August this year as a late booking. We have never cruised before
a couple of questions we have booked cabin 612 ( on the Thomson website this shows as 617 between 606 and 614 on Calypso deck but is actually 612 as 617 is further down the deck.)
Has anyone stayed in this cabin and is it ok for space etc Is being so high up and at the front of the ship a problem?
Also we want to know if it is possible to walk from each port to the nearest resort or beach ( i know the route ok for Thira in santorini ) but what about Rhodes Town, Aghios Nikolaos, Kusadasi, Mykanos town. We dont want to go on trips as we like a bit more freedom and enjoy walking but wanted to know if we would need taxis/
Also we have not booked the drinks package but is this possible once on the cruise and if so is it worth it bearing in mind we hope to spend each day off the ship
Thanks
Wends

Hi Wends,

Welcome to HW and the cruise forum where I am sure you will find the answers to your questions.

I myself have yet to go on the Calypso, but have done all other Thomson ships and enjoyed them.

Ships cabins are even one side & odd the other, sometimes with a number left out for some reason.

Most ports of call are fairly close to town, but there are a few that required some sort of transport, taxis & mini-buses are readily available just outside dock gates, and are cheap compared to ships tours.

Nanbo, has just done this cruise and I am sure she will be in sometime this week, so just call back in she will be able to answer you in full.

I try to reply to most cruise questions within two days should you have any more.

Calypso reviews.

Hi Wends

Been on this ship twice and stayed on deck 6 both times. Cabin 612 should be fine as we stayed in 620 last year, and 626, 2 weeks ago both were quiet cabins with enough room for us and had no probs. I think your cabin is a bit more spacious than ours. They have a large picture window. Kusadasi you can do on your own as its not far from the port and you can also get a bus to Epheses from there. Mykanos is a nice resort to walk around and have a few drinks. We did not go into the other resorts as the Itinary was different. I have wrote a review on the drinks prices which you may find useful have a look through on the calypso reviews to find it. I am sure you will have a great time as its a small and friendy ship.

Calypso Aegean wonders cruise

Hi Wends,
We have just done this cruise and the itinerary is as follows:
Day at Sea
Crete:You could get off and walk around easily. We took a boat to Spinalonga (The lepers island) for 10 euros each and were there from 12.30 until late afternoon. It was fabulous and very interesting.
Rhodes was easy. You just walk for about 5 minutes into the old town and it is very commercial.
Kusadasi was again easily accessible but we were harrassed all the time from the minute we got off the ship.Great duty free shop however lol.Dont take your turkish lira as its not worth it.Turkish like euros.
Santorini was mind blowing. We hired a car for 35 euros(speak to reception and they will give you a great deal on the island.(Dont forget your driving license)
Mykanos was agian very easy as there is a free bus that takes you to the old port which is about every 15 minutes.
I cannot praise this enough as I did Egypt last year and the trips were very expensive and long days. This one you can gte on and off as and when you please and is a real taster of the Greek Islands.
Hope this helps.
