Hi everyone,

I see some of you have been to Petra and I dearly would love to go. Thomson does a cruise and stay that goes to Aqaba for the trip to Petra. Is this an all day thing or do you stay overnight in Petra? I have a bit of difficulty in walking due to arthritis - are there cars that can take me through to the monuments? Or is it a hard slog by foot? How long is the journey from Aqabe to Petra? If anyone has been on this trip is it worthwhile going? And which hotel is good in Sharm? I would like a beach as I can't go off a diving jetty (not a good swimmer) but good food and comfort is more important.

Thanks,

Diana

Hello Holidaygirl,

Welcome to HW and the cruise forum.

Do pop in from time to time for recent updates to your question.

The cruise forum is lower down on this page.

All ships excursions are extras, in the main they are fairly expensive, and with the RED SEA you do not have much choice to DIY.

However that said they do give you a wonderful insight on all the tours and IMO they are worth the money.

AS for the prices, they start at £25 and up to £120 depending on what you decide to do. All tours on this cruise start early, so every other day is about right.

As you get near your sailing date, (about 12 weeks)tours will come up on Thomsons web-site, and you will then be able to select the ones you would like to do.

Hello Kirstykuk

Having previously stayed at the Red Sea Resorts for Christmas and New Year, I can confirm that it does go cool at night. Also there is a wind that blows down the coast for that two weeks of the year, but you will probably notice it more when cruising up to Cairo/Hurghada/Luxor etc.

We are also going on this cruise for Christmas and then a week at Sharm for New Year.

Not been on this cruise before but been on the Baltic Capitals cruise on the Thompson Celebration.

Thomson's gave me the following link for information on the excursions and it contains guide prices. This will be my first cruise also, a retirement gift.
