Hi we have just come back from a week on the destiny and payed to go on the organised afternoon shopping trip into Agadir, we first went to a leather, jewellrey, ornament shop, which was really good and very friendly,
But then travelled to the Souk which was basically a huge indoor market, we were pounced on within secounds of walking into it by a man claiming to be an official guide, he basically wouldnt leave us alone, and we felt extremelly intimidated by him and the group that sorrunded us when we told him to hop it, we left after just 30 min, great shame as there were one or two things I would of liked to have bought, but as soon as you stop to look they pounce on you and wont let you go!!
You have to be very thick skinned, and tbh I felt that Agadir should be taken off the itinary.. its a dump lol
One of the other passengers did get a taxi and asked the driver to take them to a shopping mall, and he took them to an upmarket mall with lots of shops, maybe Thomson should do that as excursion.

I agree with singlemum2006 we've also just come back from the same cruise and thanks to Lesley's mam and advice had a great time in Agadir. Take taxi DIRECTLY to Uniprix (fixed price shop for souveniers etc) then cross the road and walk through the Valley of the Birds (a liitle zoo park costing 50p!) Out the gate at the other side of the park and hop on the little train which takes you round Agadir to see the sights (we stayed on 35 mins and cost 2 euros each). Then you can catch a drink on the beachfront and take taxi (DIRECTLY-as they will try and take you off in other directions-be firm!) back to ship.
We went with a retired couple who tagged along claiming 'safety in numbers' who lulled into a false sense of security decided they'd like to visit the Souk after all.
Long story short we ended up making a stressed hasty exit after being followed and hassled and a seller grabbed the wrist of our 60+ friend and had to be physically removed by my husband! Definately NOT a trip for the fainthearted.
My advice is stick to Lesley's advice above.
Thanks Lesley!

Hi Sposedtobeworking
I am glad I helped you enjoy Agadir. We didn't enjoy it the first time, but we were brave enough to try it a second time (both on cruises), and it was much better when we knew how to handle the town and the people!!!
It does have some nice points, but also has some best avoided things too!!

New to forum - can I have it emailed please (heather.bun@hotmail.com).
Also, can you tell me if you know if there are much needy animals floating about in Agadir as we are not keen to venture off board if there are - also, folk hang about the port?
Thanks.
Look forward to your reply.

Hi
you really need to get a taxi from the port (too far to walk and wouldn't recomend) and the drivers must show their official documentation to enter the port so there won't be anyone 'hanging around'. We saw no needy animals and even in the little park zoo all of the animals were well cared for which was a refreshing change in such foreign zoos. Hope this helps.
