Ive never cruised before but I'm tempted to book for Christmas next year, Anyone else?
Are there any clever ways to get the price down? I'm really scared of spending all that money and then finding out I could have done it cheaper or better. (what a wus eh!)
There will be 3 of us, 2 adults 1 child - any advice on which cabin would suit us best?
Sorry for the 90 questions but its such a lot of money - I will be on a budget for the rest of the year!!
Thanks

| I go on the Desiny on 9th November, so if you have any specific questions, I'd be glad to check anything out for you when I'm there. With regards to the caribbean though, I have no idea as I have never been there. It's also very hard to tell how Thomson's will do in the carribbean and whether prices will rise or fall depending on how well the bookings go! I'm thinking they could easily do well, as the Brits like the brand, and also they may be offering the AI package which is not available on many other cruiseboats.
I hear the cabins are small though, so maybe you'd find it worthwhile upgrading?
Good deals can be found by using discount codes on the Thomson website. There is another thread recently that I posted some I found online - worth looking it up on their website then when you get to the page you put your details in try lots of codes and see what it takes!

Cruising the Caribbean for Christmas costs about £1000 per week with a reduction of roughly £400 for your child, this applies to most cruise line operating in the Caribbean during the winter.
You do sometimes get late deals but these are few and far between, this is due not to the cruise but to the flight prices. Late deals often mean you do not fly direct but though several gateways. The cut off time for flight increases used to be 16 Dec, now I'm afraid it is closer to the 12th.
Cabins for three are slightly limited to certain decks, inside being the cheapest.
Do your homework on the web, there are many sites that will give you on-line quotes,
take these to your travel agent & ask if they can better it.
You might also consider the Med and Canaries over Christmas, while not quite as warm as the Caribbean, you will get some sort of tan. Look at Thomson's cruise & stay for great deals, cruise a week before then a week in Tenerife.
Worth a look are Princess, Costa, Royal Caribbean as well as Thomson & Ocean Village.
Keep taking a look here as I will keep a eye out for any deals coming though my e-mail and will post any that come in.

| Hi all. I have never really wanted to go to the Caribbean and after a really bad cruise on Island Escape earlier in the year I didn't think I would ever cruise with Island Cruises again. However when they announced their two week cruises for winter 2008 I looked at their website and booked on the Island Star ex Manchester for £1870. Now I know that this will mean buffet meals and no all inclusive but the price does include a hefty single supplement (almost 800£) and it will be a twin bedded inside cabin. I leave on 4th December and so will be back in time for Christmas and with luck the hurricane season in the Carribean will be over by its usual early November and not too many of the islands will be affected. The trip is to Barbados (with the first night spent in port) and then (in no particuar order) Tortola, St.Lucia, St. Martaan, Aruba, Grand Cayman, Jamaica, Dominician Republic and I think St. Kitts. Shortly after I booked Thomson announced that the Destiny would be in the Caribbean for the same season (and they will have AI) but the itinenary does not look as inviting - I may investigate the price just in case - unfortunately it won't give me a single price on the web.

| We have been on The Destiny twice and have loved every minute. As soon as we saw she was going to the Caribbean we booked straight away .I think you would be fine in a three berth cabin ,pre book your cabin on deck 3 mid ship if at all possible .We stayed in outside cabin 3147 it was nice and quiet, and close to the lifts so easy to find.Look on thomson site and get the deck layout on screen. We also had inside cabin but found it a little noisy ,we could here people talking in the cabin behind us.How old is your child ,ours are 6 and 11 perfect for the kids club which is fab .I wouldnt take a child under three years old.Hope this helps to make your mind up.

Hi Bo,
Bit of track with this post but do look at Coral or Sea Princess for the Panama Canal cruise, from LA to Miami, one of my all time favourite cruises.
