First cruise, 6 weeks to go and counting and I always check this site every day just to keep me up to date on this whole cruising malarkey.

We have chosen an early sitting at the Seven Seas restaurant and am aware there is a formal dress code for this. Am I right in thinking that although you have requested an early sitting for the duration of your holiday you don't necessarilly have to eat there every night?? I note there is also a Lido Cafe....as we have two kids sometimes they might not want to eat at the same time every night so we would look to visit the cafe. Is there some sort of dress code for the cafe.......i.e. can you turn up in shorts and t-shirts or is that a strict no no. I really don't want to offend anyone or be asked to leave and wear more suitable attire if you know what I mean. I've also read that it's not appropriate to swan around in swimming costumes is there any do's and dont's you could advise me on.

Tenpin, on your marks, get set, go........hurry up I'm timing you!!!!!!

Also is there a cinema on the Destiny?

Cheers everyone

Hello Miss Ritchie,

My humble apologises there was I sunning myself in the garden, when Mrs T rushed down to inform me of your post, but unfortunatly she got way-laid on the way down by a pile of ironing, just can't get the staff nowadays.

There is no formal dress code in the buffet, but they do expect you to cover swimwear at lunchtimes, shorts and tops are permitted.

To be honest providing you are neatly dressed whenever eating then I would not expect there to be any problem it a bit like any hotel or bar anywhere.

Can't say I ever look for a cinema on board, too busy looking at all the girls in shorts in the buffet, but don't think there is on the Destiny

Hi Miss Ritchie,

There isn't a cinema on Destiny, but they often show movies/concerts in Blakes up on deck 7.

The dress code for the Seven Seas restaurant on all nights is smart/casual, except the Captain's cocktail party when formal is suggested.

Rachel.

after sampling the lovely food in the seven seas you wont want to eat in the lido, the food is much nicer in sevenseas and you get waited on which is what cruising is for, lido is fine for snacks thru the day, no cinema but films are played thru the day on ur cabin tv. hope you enjoy it as much as we did in april, it was our first ever cruise and couldnt fault anything at all. trev.

Thanks to you all for your responses.

Yep, sounds like it's the Seven Seas for us every night, good reason for me to go clothes shopping but definitely not good for my weight loss!! Is it true that even if you are all inclusive but order wine by the bottle with your meal you are charged but if you order by the glass you aren't? Also, is it courtesy to tip your waiter at the Seven Seas and do you get the same one every night of your cruise??

God I love this website!!!

Cheers

yes you do have same waiters 2 for ur food and a wine waiter, dont buy the bottle just get it by the glass they will fill it as often as you like no probs, we tipped the 3 waiters cos they were fantastic, also if you like you can buy bottle of wine from the on board duty free shop and have a glass in ur room my wife did while she was getting ready we went all inclusive and we really got our money worth lol cheers trev.

Just come back from our first cruise ever. We ate in both the Seven Seas and the Lido and found both of them good. We had our 3 year old with us so mealtimes were more geared round her and whether we were on a trip arriving back late, etc. You don't have to eat in the same place every night. Don't believe all the reviews about the Lido food being cold. Remember to choose your plate from the hot plate stack and not from the end by the starters. The glasses of wine are much better in the restaurant than in the Lido but the Lido's aren't too bad.

Don't know how old your kids are but the Kidzone on deck 7 was great for our daughter. They accommodate kids up to about 12 years I think, but could be older - have a look in your brochure. They have 8-10pm sessions on some nights too so you can go out by yourselves and see a show maybe or do the quiz in the Oklahoma Lounge. NB If you like quizzes and want to do the 8.00pm one and there is a kidzone session on, ask earlier in the day if you can drop them off at 7.55 which gives you time to get to the quiz (deck 5) before it starts - they always start on time!! They also show films in the Kidzone on some nights - there is always a theme to each kidzone session but we found that if there were not many kids there then they just did what the kids fancied. There were only two 3 year olds on our cruise so they just wanted to paint and play.

By the way, if you like a nice Gin and Tonic, get the barman in the Clipper Bar to make it for you - he is the best!! Hope you have a fabulous cruise like we did.

Thanks for that. How spooky......gin & tonic happens to be my fave tipple!!!

Our girls are 7 & 10 so they should be well catered for. We intend to take them everywhere with us but appreciate they might want to spend some time with other children so we'll arrange something on board. We are going during school time too so not sure how many kids will be around.

Can't wait for this holiday, only 4 weeks and 2 days to go!!

Cheers

I tend to pass by the Seven Seas during the day to have a look at the evening menu - just in case there isn't anything I fancy I then know to go to the Lido that evening for dinner. Although its really hard not to find something you like on the Seven Seas menu as there's so many options but I am fussy so I always do this as a back up!

Also its really nice having a meal al fresco in the Lido if you're sailing away at sunset, like this: http://www.jessandjay.co.uk/cruise1/35.htm, sailing away from Sardinia in 2005 or this: http://www.jessandjay.co.uk/cruise2/18.htm sailing away from Villefrance in 2006 so I never let people put me off eating dinner in the Lido, its perfectly nice enough food - just not as nice as the Seven Seas although it does make a nice change. Tell your fellow table guests on the first night that you might not always eat in the Seven Seas so that they don't feel put out when you don't turn up one night!

woah, photos on the beach? I need to find out how to delete that link then!

That would probably have been in Sardinia though (Olbia).
