| Just to let you all know that we have arrived back from our cruise, the Mediterranean Renaissance and I've posted my review but it will probably take a while to show up.
It was fantastic and I am absolutely gob smacked to read two reviews of the same cruise one in particular who didn't have a good word to say. You must have been on a different cruise to us then.......5 out of 10 come on!!
My review is a bit.....well long......as I had so many wonderful things to say. Please read it and don't let the previous ones put you off!! It is listed under Mrs T Richardson.
Cheers y'all!!

| Hi,
well your review has yet to appear but I will read it when it does. I have read lots of your other items on the forum and you have always been most informative.
I like the comments on the 5/10 review " Pisa is Pathetic " and
" Florence was boring " , Obviously culture and heritage in these wonderful countries are not enough !!!!!!
We are travelling at the end of July on the Destiny doing the same itinery as you so will look forward to reading your review.
Was there any change to the stops as I saw on another forum that the ship had not stopped at Livorno but another place instead presumably this did not effect people travelling to Florence and Pisa but I would appreciate knowing before our trip.
I am really looking forward to travelling on the Destiny and we are having a week in Majorca beforehand so we can rest up ready for all the sightseeing we will be doing later!

| Livorno isn't the nicest port in the world...its very industrial and not a lot to see and do.... I was on Destiny early May this year and the Livorno Port Authority advised thomson's the berth allocated wasn't very nice, so we went up the coast to another smaller place - I can't for the life of me remember what it was called, but it was a little treasure of a place....and since its just up the coast, and excursions still take place as planned....
oh formal night is the day at sea so it will always be the Friday night
if you want to see some pics of the ship I put some on bebo - www.bebo.com/r00ssyb0y
cheers

| Hi Soulprincess
Ignore completely everything 5/10 reviewer gave. Some people just like to moan!!
The ship no longer ports at Livorno, it is a different port which I can't remember the name of as I am at work and not home at the moment. It takes about an hour and 20 mins to get to Florence but you have a stop on route and a very informative guide. Listen out for the stories about the white marble and Pinnocchio, won't spoil it for you but they are very interesting.
Formal night was on the Friday night which was the sail day and it is a great time to get your glad rags on. You can get you photos taken, make sure you queue for your photos on the two floors as they provide different back drops!! They are then displayed later in the week so you have an opportunity to select the best ones to buy!!
You will have an absolutely fantastic time we certainly did and I was this close to booking up again for next year, until the hubby brought me back down to earth. My first day back at work and I've already convinced two colleagues to book up for next year. I'm still hyper bout it now and Florence is wonderful, ooh I'm filling up again.
You'll be comparing your week in Majorca to the cruise ship as soon as you arrive......believe me......there is no comparison.
I am really jealous but have a fabulous time. Make sure you try all the cocktails including the cocktail of the day and they mix a fantastic gin and slimline tonic.
I'm a bit worried my review hasn't materialised yet, it was of epic proportions and the thought of writing it all again.......well it allows me to chunter on again and reminisce!!!

| Hi
I am not taking any notice of 5/10 review , some people are just not cultured enough !!!!!!!
We have done a cruise and stay previously and enjoyed it very much
( Corfu and then toured the Greek islands ) , we like to do the stay in the hotel first because all we do is just chill out for that week .
Thanks for the info about the formal night and the port of call.
Look forward to reading your review ( if it ever appears ! )

| Hi,
The port to replace Livorno is Marina di Carrara, it's a nice little town, easy walking from the ship or there is a free mini road train. there are some of my pictures of it at
http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v389/ChrisDuffy/Cruise%2006-08/
My review took a few days to surface so dont worry it will appear i,m sure.
10 x 8 photos were £15 each , I think they had a buy 3 get one free deal.Smaller ones were £11.99.Got to admit we spent more than we should but as it was our 30th anniversary, what the hell ! lol . There is absolutely no pressure to buy.
Cheers
Chris
PS If you go with the intention of having a good time , you will!! and all the staff will help you do so. Have fun!!

| Hi Shipletts
Overall we spent £42 on photos and that got us two 10 x 8 (I think) prints of the Captains Gala Dinner one of me and hubby and one of us with the kids. Remember there are two backdrops to choose from. Chris is absolutely right no pressure to buy, just pick the best ones you like. We also chose the photos prior to boarding the ship which are postcard size and they throw in a key ring for free. We didn't get photographed with the Captain but there's loads of photos to choose from at the end of your cruise!!
Have fun. The large ones are priced at £14.99 each if I remember rightly!!

Hi Miss Ritchie,
Do I take it you enjoyed your cruise?
As for Photos they are a little expensive, but as they are professionaly shot they even make me look good, that has got to be worth £15.
But like what has been said, you don't have to buy.

| Hi Tenpin
I had an absolutely fabulous time and am really worried my review hasn't shown up yet. I posted it on Sunday and admit it is of epic proportions. Hopefully will show up soon though.
Nearly had another booked on our return to England on the Friday, frogmarched the family up to the MetroCentre straight into Thomsons but hubby brought me down to earth and reminded me we'd already planned next year's holiday at a friends villa in Murcia.
Had I of been on my own I would have booked the Jewels of the Med Itinarary there and then!!!
Thanks for all your good advice. Were you on holiday as well???

Hi Mis Ritchie,
Yes just come back from 'Top of the World' North Cape on the Grand Princess, this is one of the 5 cruises everyone should do before sailing of into the sunset.
As for your review, at this time of the year it could take up to three/four weeks due to the shear volume of them coming in, Most have to be checked for all sorts of legal things.
Glad I could help and do look forward of reading about your trip.

Miss R Just out of interest did your kids go in the kids club at all? if so was it ok? I know with trips and stuff we will be really busy but i thought the kids might fancy it when the ship is at sea. Thanks Mrs S

I guarantee you won't need the photo's touched up. Everyone we saw on display looked fantastic no matter what shape, size or age!!!
About the kids club. Well....we had hoped our two aged 10 and 7 would go but to be honest they had so much fun with us around the pool or during the daytime quizzes, they didn't really want to go, plus they probably would have been split up as they deal with age ranges. However families we spoke to on a regular basis whose kids did go to the clubs say they really enjoyed it.
They could always give it a try and if they didn't like it hang out with you. There's always something for them to do, whether in and out of the pool like ours or ordering their own drinks. Our kids had a fantastic time and were never bored!! That meant my husband and I had an even better time knowing they were happy.
Enjoy.

| HI there Mrs S.
I have just read your post above, and i was on the spirit in may and i have got to say my granddaughter (who is 10) went to the kids club all of the time she enjoyed it so much she did not want to leave the ship. They picked the kids up for breakfast, and one night they had their evening meal together in the compass rose, this allowed the adults to have meals alone without the children. The kids are very well looked after, i can assure you. carol
