| Anyone else going December 2008?
Whats the best currency to take? Obviously Euro's in Lisbon & Madeira but Barbados, Antigua, Catalina Island, Domica & Dominican Republic?
We went on the Celebration last year (Jordan, Egypt and they seemed to accept Sterling everywhere).
We are two adults 53, Daughter 16 (Nearly 17 in December) and a Son 16yrs so the only reservations I have is the 6 days at sea crossing the atlantic, I do hope the entertainment is stepped up during this period to keep us busy?
Looking forward to it..............................

| I've just seen another thread where some said there's no Tobacco or Alcohol on-board the Destiny is this right?
We went on the 'Celebration' last year and although we were in Muslim countries the Duty Free shop was selling Tobacco / Alcohol when we were sailing (not open in Port).
We would go AI but they wanted about £300 each for Me & the wife and £150 each for the kids we'd never drink £900's worth in 2 weeks........ I myself don't drink and my wife only drinks 2 x Brandy's per evening and the kids are on soft drinks although they'll have the occasional glass of wine or Alcopop.............

Hi Joe,
Welcome to the Cruise forum.
Your best bet for currency for the Caribbean is US dollars they will be accepted almost everywhere, ship does sell them but at a very poor rate. I tend to buy when I have a few bob spare from the Post office, and use them all over the place, even the Med when I'm out of Euros or Sterling.
On Trans-Atlantic cruises, there is normally a bit more going on during the day, although to be honest the time seems to fly past.
I'm surprised they are charge £150pw for all inclusive on that cruise as it's usually a fill in cruise with several good deals. (Just before Xmas)
However been on a few of these and quite honestly my bar bill never came close to £150 pw.
I think the tobacco & drink issue relates to the duty free shop, and this in itself is a matter of who is serving you. I have purchased both and been allowed to take it with me, but, once they kept it back until end of cruise. You may also take one bottle of wine with you when returning to ship, but no spirits.
Hope this helps, be here until Weds if you have any more questions.

i think why you have heard there is no alcohol or ciggies to buy on board is because the ship is in the med, they appear to have the same rules as airports, when in Europe you can not buy duty frees. i think they will have them when going to the Caribbean. have a great time.

| I do hope the Duty Free is open on the Destiny, we like to keep a bottle in the Cabin as a Nite-cap............
I'm guessing the Destiny is then staying in Barbados, Dom Rep area for our winter then returning to the Med at the start of the 2009 Season?
