Broxy,

Can't say I have ever seen it performed on a Thomson ship.

However going by other shipping lines you can wear almost anything, but would suggest at least slacks & shirt for the men, up to and including a full tuxedo. It's your day so really you can please yourself, trust me you wont be out of place if you dress to the nines.

This is a bit like formal nights you will see anything from a tux to just a sports shirt & slacks.

How did you book the cruise and service surely they can inform you of the procedure?

blessing at sea

Hi Broxy,

My parents renewed their wedding vows on Airtours' Sundream a few years ago.

We were asked if we could meet with the hotel director once onbaord to dicuss timings and things, and the hotel and cruise director sorted everything else out.

They arranged flowers, a cake, bubbly and evens photos (at a small extra charge). My Dad wore a black suit with a tie and my Mum wored a white summer dress (it was 40 degrees in the Dom Rep)!

The Captain (Philip Rentell) performed the service and gave them a certificate afterwards.

We were all then excorted down to the restaurant for dinner where the waiters serenaded them.

If there is anything else you would like to ask me, please do.

Hi
we were thinking of booking the blessing at sea for our trip in July but are concerned about whether the blessing is performed on the day at sea or if it is when we are in dock somewhere.
We don't really want to lose any time ashore as that is the whole point of the holiday so if anyone can tell me I would appreciate it.

Hiya SP,

Going by most other lines it is performed on sea days, more people about so therefore good for business lol.

blessing at sea

Hi SoulPrincess,

When my parents renewed their vows, it was at sea after we had left the port of Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic.

Last year when I was on Destiny, 4 couples had blessings and it was while we were still in port.

Hi
When you were on the Destiny last year and you said that the 4 blessings were when you were in port , do you mean on one of the day's that you would be visiting ashore ( rome , florence , etc ) we are sailing on the mediteranian renaissance cruise and really don't want to miss out on any time ashore.
The itinery includes a day at sea so I would hope or assume that they would possibly do the blessings then.
If anyone out there has been on this itinery and has had a blessing I would appreciate any info
Thanks

Hi Soulprincess,

I'm a little confused, you say you are 'thinking' of booking this for a cruise in JULY.

Have you booked the cruise? If so just go back to whoever you booked it with and ask the question.
Or phone Thomsons After Sales service on 0870-550-2590 and ask them if you can choose when its done.

The term " Blessings at Sea" should mean just that, they are done at sea, end of argument,

Bessings in Port does not have the same meaning, so put your point across.
And good luck and have a wonderful cruise.

Rachel,
when you say that the 4 couples on Destiny had their blessing when you were still in port , can you remember which port you were in and how far into the cruise it was and what itinery were you on.
I have been in touch with them and they have specified that only four couples are booked in for blessings per cruise so that particular group you saw would have been all the blessings for that cruise taking place at that time.
They have told me that they cannot specify when the blessing would be until we board the ship which is a bit annoying.
I am going to think seriously about whether or not to book it as I really don't want to lose any time ashore.
If anyone else out there has any experience of the blessings with Thomson Destiny please let us know.

Hi SoulPrincess,

It was on the Colurful Coasts itinerary in October 2007, and if I remember correctly, it was while we were in port in Agadir.

Please let me know if there is anything else you would like to know.
