| hi , just contacted thomson, as have booked the transatlantic sunrise for next april and didn't at the time book the drinks package. It was at the time 379 pounds each which I thought was a lot, it has now gone up to 435 each, but in the brochure this is being offered free, but they have told me there is no room left.??? i have tried to rebook on the net and there is loads of room left! I know we won't drink that much so are the prices on board reasonable, sorry to go on!!!!

Hi Lizian,
How much? surely you got that wrong most I have ever seen is £179 per week.
Prices on board are roughly the same as your local pub, maybe just a bit more on some drinks. So it is fairly easy to work out by knowing how much you would normally drink, and add maybe 6 TO 8 pounds a day on top when at sea if you fancy all day drinks.
In general our bar bill does not exceed £200to £240 a week and we both like a drink and wine with our dinner.
Hope this helps, but really depends on your intake rather than the prices.

| apparently because it is an 18 night cruise that is why the price is 435 each

| Hi,
we were on Destiny early June, as tenpin has said the prices were about the same as our local pub. A pint of bitter and a bacardi and coke was £5, cocktails were around £3 .
hope this helps
Cheers

| Hi Lizian,
Thomson offer a number of free all inclusive packages on selected cruises. The small print in the brochures clearly states that its a limited offer. There may well be availability in cabins but once they stop the all inclusive deal that is it. It used to be that once the brochures were published in March/April that you had until the following December to book and the freebie was included. In the past couple of years the free all inclusive ends in June (for the following year). This year there was a clock ticking away the minutes and hours on the Thomson web-site.
Prices on board the ship are comparable to UK pub prices but (and it is a big but) the measures - or the strength - are reduced. For example the first cocktail of the day is full strength and in a proper sized glass with all the fruit etc as garnish. The second one is very much weaker and the third one is not only weaker but has no garnish and is in a smaller glass.
I was on Calypso in June and had a ball. I had the free all inclusive but on looking at the account once I returned and worked out the number of drinks I had taken I really should have spent most of the time in the medical centre with alcohol poisoning. Free all inclusive is a scam and it attracts a certain type of cruiser. To pay for all inclusive is a rip off.

| I don't think the free AI upgrade is a scam, it is a incentive to book early and as far as I am concerned it is a discount off the price. There are no AI upgrades on any UK cruises because of some technical/legal reasons? As for attracting a certain type of cruiser I presume you mean drunks!!!

I'm with Dave on this one,
the all inclusive drinks package is usually reserved for early booking or cruises that are 'out of season' even at the maximum charge offered on some cruises, it would be good value for medium drinkers, particularly if there are a few Sea days.

Hi a1stan,
Not very good advise there, the T&C state no alcohol can be taken on board, although this is sometimes overlooked by crew on scanners.
You are also not allowed to take bottles back for consumption, though again it is possible if crew are lazy that day. These are set rules for most cruise ships, you will not lose any bottles taken off you, these will be returned to your cabin last night of the cruise.
This is not to say it can’t be done just be aware that you may not get away with it.
As for ice just ask your room steward to fill a ice bucket for you, whenever you want it.

| Hi Lizian
I have to agree with DaveCTTR. We were lucky in getting a free AI upgrade at our booking and as a family of 4; 2 adults and 2 children we really benefited from being able to have a drink when we wanted it and I don't just mean alcohol. Cruising is a whole different ball game and we never came across anyone who 'made sure they got their money's worth'.
It was nice to know that if we fancied a couple of cocktails or beers then we didn't have to worry about the bill at the end of the trip!!
If we hadn't had the free upgrade we certainly would have paid for it for the kids as they really did benefit from it.
Hope this helps.
Tracy.

| hi there,
I think the all inclusive is great, especially if you like coffee( as well as alcohol) some of the specialty coffees are about £1.25-£1.75 each so a few coffees a day and that soon puts your bill up. The bought coffee is much better than the free stuff. Yes you will always get people who abuse it and the odd drunk, but most people are ok. If like me you cant take alcohol 24/7 I would wait the price of the all inclusive bit might come down nearer the holiday as the prices do change have a great holiday. carol.

| There are a large number of posts on various forums about taking your own drinks aboard, presumably to avoid paying the onboard prices. Think of this, how long would it be before you were thrown out of your local pub for taking in your own booze or snacks? Not long before the dreaded 'your banned' !!!!
Back to the free AI. I reckon on at least quadrupling my normal weekly booze/drinks allowance but not all on alcoholic drinks so that is my normal weekly ten pints times four or the equivalent of £100 discount on the cruise price. Very nice of Thomsons.
