| Hi please can anyone tell me how rough the weather is in october in the med. I have booked to go on the spirit on the 18 of Oct and I'm a little concerned about sea sickness. I went on the calypso in May round the black sea and had no problems, but I think oct gets a little choppy, has anyone had any problems?
Cheers firstcuiser

| Hi firstcruiser - I have had dreadful weather crossing from Palma to France and Spain in June and July and a millpond in the Eastern Med at the end of the season - early to mid October. It just depends I suppose. Luckily seasickness does not affect me but two years ago on the Emerald in the first two weeks of October we landed in Corfu in a massive thunderstorm which followed us all through the day at sea - the outer decks were closed and the safety drill took place in the lounges. A lot of people were ill and the staff were putting sick bags all around the place. However by day 4 it was gone and again smooth sailing but not every day was sunny enought to go up on deck and sunbathe - I think the temperature reached about only 21 or 22 most days but with overcast skies.
Make sure you have a cabin in the middle of the ship and not on the higher decks as the upper deck cabins sway more in rough weather. Try to have an outside cabin but if possible get up on deck and focus on the furthest point on the horizon. From talking to others the worst thing you can do is go to bed - so it seems. Eat lightly and keep alcohol to a minimum. I always take sea legs (just in case) and if I know the weather forecast is not good I take a couple as a precaution. On the Emerald - I don't know if this goes for many ships - the reception staff handed out sea sickness pills free of charge. For a serious case the doctor can administer a jab which I understand is very effective. Enjoy your cruise

| Hi firstcruises. Take your chances and ENJOY. You will be fine and a little preparation in terms of what you bring will ease any worries. As I said I do not suffer from sea sickness but the person who came along with me did. I gave her the over the counter stuff I had brought and it worked a treat

| Just returned from week on the Destiny around the Med. We had 2 rough days, the first was crossing from Palma to France, which was Captains dinner party, lots including us didn't make it.
2nd was the crossing from Italy to Sardinia, which changed to Corsica because of rough seas meant the tender could get us to shore. This was particularly rough in the cabin, lots of passengers chose to sleep on the stairs, and around the ship.
I took the travel wrist bands and Sturgeron tablets which worked ok, didnt quite get rid of the motion sickness all together but certainly eased it, so my advice is go prepared. You can opt for the injection from the onboard Doc, which speaking to another couple who took this option, it knocked them out for 24 hours!! so your choice....
